Blackout effectors Mantra?

I just saw a killer show this weekend, and the guitarist had a pretty minimalistic pedalboard...
His main dirt was a Mantra OD, and though it was probably due to the guy's unearthly skills, it sounded ridiculously awesome. So that made me curious about the Mantra, and why it doesn't seem to get a lot of mension around here :idk:

It somehow always stayed under my radar, probably partialy cause I'm usually more into fuzz and distortion, and never really got along with OCD flavoured overdrive. But I never really gave it a fair chance either. My current rig is sparkly clean and loud as fuck, I think it might do great with somekind of overdrive that's not as meh as tubescreamer or as bass-less as a Rat...

I had one and didn't love it - something about it just felt flat. Mighta been the tonestack? Kinda boxy in my rig. I much prefer the EQD Talons or DOD Boneshaker. As always ymmv and whatnot.

Thanks.

The Talons seems a bit...I don't know, 'fizzy' sounding in the clips I checked :idk:

When I found out BAT and DOD was teaming up for a high gain dirt pedal with a parametric eq, designed with low tunings in mind, I went :joy: :joy: :joy:

...But I just don't do well with pedals that have more than three or four controls. I keep tweaking the knobbies instead of playing guitar

I haven't tried it, but the Hungry Robot High Gain seems great.
