...Streetcleaner is overrated. I know i know its a classic but its overrated and Hymns is waaaaaay better both as an album and as a realization of godflesh as a concept.

Evidence of my noobishness: while I am most certainly down with Jesu, A World Lit Only By Fire is my first and only Godflesh experience.

Streetcleaner was the first godflesh I heard, thanks to an earache comp. so it's difficult to be objective about. But hymns is great too.
I haven't really gotten into greymacgine despite a number of halfhearted attempts.

The last bit of 'defeated', and the way the bass and china cymbal blend in that riff in a way that makes you want to go set a cop car on fire, is worth the price of admission on hymns alone. But like I have the 2xlp reissue of it and you could turn sides b and c into intricate etchings of broadrick in his zip off cargo pants and green smashing a kebab and a durry and I wouldnt miss a thing. Album is two of their best songs bookending a crapload of filler.
I agree that world lit only by fire does relentlessly heavy dad mosh meets middle aged depression WAY better.
Streetcleaner is defs overrated but at the time it was like nothing a lot of people (myself included but I was just a kid so whatevs) had heard before. But I reckon songs of love and hate nails the 90s godflesh vibe with all the detuned 808 kicks, blown out hip hop influences and cluttered production. Its pretty dated now but still rad. So's the remix album.
Feel like greymachine had some great ideas (vultures desend bro) but kinda find it a little long and boring? And I normally like long and boring music.
Jesu started out with two brilliant records before sliding rapidly into utter mediocrity. Fight me.
Final is super underrated as far as Broadricks twenty different projects go imo.

People like Jesu? Jesu ruined Envy. Band is bad enough but they had to drag Envy into mediocre bullshit as well.

I love Jesu. I don't even know why. On paper, it's boring. There's no riffs, and he sings like a choir boy. It just lasts forever.
Someone told me to listen to Jesu back in college, and I wanted to dislike it because it sounded dull and stupid. But for whatever reason, I dug it hard. It's like listening to a Swervedriver record at quarter speed.
Opiate Sun is an underrated record, even among people who like Jesu. Broaderick has a knack for making everything sound like a studio project with layers of dubs and samples, because nearly all of his stuff is exactly that. Opiate Sun is one of very few records that he's done that just sounds like a band in a jam room recording live takes, even though it isn't.
I really want to like Greymachine, but it feels like I'm just listeneing to any sludge record whilst someone is standing on my head, underwater.

Actually, yeah, like I said, I got into Jesu around the same time I got into all the drone- and post-metal bands, around 2006 or so, and have been a pretty heavy listener since. If I can suggest, if you were listening to them (or to Envy) expecting a metal band, they would definitely be disappointing, yeah. But if you're looking for a heavy shoegaze band, I think they hit the nail right on the head. Pretty singing accompanied by a big wall of fuzz. Actually, I don't get what's not to love...? Chill shoegaze metal. Also, my favourite Envy records came out around 2007 or so,
Abyssal and the Thursday/Envy split.
Anyway... this shit chills me out so hard, like, Tylenol 4 in auditory form LOL

I think this is one of the things that I love about Jesu. I love things with hundreds of overdubs on the guitar and vocals. Like "Soma" by The Smashing Pumpkins, anything by Queen produced by Roy Thomas Baker, "Goodbye Sky Harbour" by Jimmy Eat World, post-
Sgt. Pepper's Beatles, etc. Probably my favourite sort of music to listen to. Definitely my favourite kind of music to play, just looping over things over and over. Though I suck.

Jesu is awesome. I almost like it more than Godflesh.
From what I've heard of Envy: Meh
A World Lit Only By Fire is pretay, pretay, pretay good. I just saw them a few weeks ago. It was alright.
I haven't listened to Hymns enough.

Man jesu was great up through SILVER but quickly devolved into elevator music for people that like isis but need something to put on when they are around others so they won't be accused of only listening to isis.
