New Invention

Hey ILFers.

After about 3 or more years of making this clunky thing into the nicest product I can, I finally got a provisional patent and can openly talk about it with people to find out if anyone other than myself is glad it exists.

It's a pretty straight forward accessory to solve a simple problem for live musicians.

Inventing stuff and keeping it secret is the lame kind-of irony of going down the road of protecting your IP, because it's difficult to know if you're onto a good thing or have wasted a bunch of time and resources (and sleep).

I'm planning to launch it asap, but the overheads for production are quite steep, so I was really hoping if I put the call out, I might be able to ask some fellow pedal geeks to PM me and be brutally honest about a product demo vid and description, but also kindly not repost publicly. I'm mainly hoping to cure any tunnel vision I have so I don't crash and burn.

Thanks

Sorry, I wrote that really late at night here. Basically to disclose an invention through PM and get feedback on whether it's a realistic or dumb idea to go forward with it.

I would watch your demo, give an honest opinion, and speak not a word of it. Without even seeing it tho, if you think it solves a problem and would use the product yourself someone else will want it.

I'll definitely watch it for you. But I agree with gnomethrone. "if you think it solves a problem and would use the product yourself someone else will want it." The real question is how many people want it, how easy it is to learn about it and obtain it, how affordable is it, and how simple it is to implement. Or is it important enough a major would license/buy it from you

I think the amount anyone might consider paying for it is the most difficult issue I face. It has two chips on board that account for about 50% of the cost - Size and low power being the key aspects.

Unfortunately I don't think it's realistic to go with anything but a distributor model if I were to go into production, which makes things very difficult to get the production cost down, as it's basically got to be around 35% of the projected retail cost (or less!).. now I see why "inventor" isn't a common profession :D Doh!
