So I have started digging into my solo stuff more and love playing the occasional gig by my lonesome. The few times I've done it I've just borrowed amps but I know that won't always be an option for me. I don't have a car and use things like uber to get to these solo gigs and I am only comfortable with bringing my board and bass vi in these situations.

What di box should I invest in? It should be noted that I play some noisey, droney, detuned black metal stuff. I guess if it came across somewhat like Nadja live that'd be sick.

Can't say I've used this live but for band practice I run my bass and pedals into a Sans Amp. And it is powered by phantom so now worries of an extra power supply or batteries running dead.

If you're already running pedals and all that shit, then you don't have to worry about an active DI, so you can totally look at passive ones. I have a Radial JDI that I use, and its fantastic, plus a bunch of recording studios use them as well.

I use a rusty box for this exact application.

I've got a Tech21 VT Bass DI and though I've only used it at home so far (plugged in a mixer), it works really nicely. Tons of options and sounds good, designed for bass but nice on guitar too so it might be a good fit for a Bass VI...

IMO you can really get away with anything. If you are on the cheap a passive DI will be ok if you are running other pedals. Then I would look at the rusty box/sansamp stuff. And on the high end you can look at a darkglass bk7. I've used all this stuff live in a metal setting and they all will work quite well. Just find what will fit your pedalboard and price range. And be careful with power requirements becuase the rusty box is picky.

I had a few Seymour Duncan pedals in the past and each of them is a great tool. Maybe this "Paranormal Bass Direct Box" might be just what you need:
