Pretty new to the forum and was just wondering if anyone knows how a 50 watt head would sound with 2 16 ohm 412 cabs. I have an orange thunderverb 50 and the only cab i have atm is an old vintage acoustic brand 212, it was a combo but i removed the head to just use it as a cab. It has 2 8ohm emminance speakers and sounds pretty good. Im planning on getting an orange 412 at some point and was curious if i used my current 16 ohm 212 along side the 16 ohm orange 412 if it would sound good.

I just have never seen anyone ever use a 412 and 212 or 2 412s with a 50 watt head and im sure there is a reason for this. I would love if its possible to retain tone while doing so but if not im probably just going to turn my 212 into an 8ohm 412 which would save me money, i would also like to know how a 16ohm 412 and an 8ohm 412 compare with a 50watt head. I would just go to a local music shop and experiment myself but i live in WV and my options are very limited. I understand the electrical side of speakers and wiring but have little experience with them in regard to guitar amps and cabs. Thanks for any information.

The reason is moving and necessity. Generally any 412 can handle the output of a 50W head. The extra speakers will make your sound "bigger" but you generally won't get much more headroom. I love my 50W, but it definitely starts to break up around 11 or 12 on the master volume. I run my in stereo with a 100W head and 412.

Splitting loads between a 412 and 212 is weird, because everything is split EVENLY. That means you're pushing the 212 speakers collectively harder than the 412 speakers. Might sound cool, its all up to your ears.

Cool, thanks for the response. Ill probably save up and get a good 412 and then i can always experiment with them together. After research and playing various heads i really thought 50 watts would be fine for gigging, and for the most part it is, but for the type of music i play live it isnt quite as powerful as i would like. hopefully going from a 212 to 412 makes a difference. loud isnt really what im after, i hate going to a show and having my ears ring for a week. I want to be able to move as much air as possible at medium volume.

In that case. Just get louder amps and wear ear plugs.
