Death by Audio and the Fuzz Documentary

So, I finally had a glimpse of that Fuzz documentary while searching for more DBA pedal designs I could attempt to figure out/steal.
Cool part was that there's this whole scene where they show two pedals I'd never heard of until that video. And I've yet to fully grasp just how many DBA pedals I've looked at in the last 24 hours.

I don't know about you guys (especially since public opinion varies wildly where DBA is concerned) but I want them both. Even though anyone that owns them have, probably, either lost them, trashed them, hidden them, or forgotten them in a corner of some studio.

I have a feeling the Space Cave was a precursor to the Echo Dream, though, and that the Super Sonic Fuzz Overload could be created simply by utilizing some logic and combining a few of their pedals. But, we'll never know.

Glass Hero seems to have the DBA rarities on lock.

I was under the impression that Glass Hero doesn't do much anymore, though, since the website defaulted and the Facebook account is rarely updated with new posts.
I've always wanted to get hold of Micah's Armageddon design, though.

I think Micah's just been busy with stuff other than pedal building.
So, he may not really have time for custom work.
As far as I know, he's still planning on doing a tourbox here (hopefully soon).

I wonder if he'd be open to sharing the schematics of the Armageddon and Evil Filter (assuming he has them).
I hope Knobs manages to get in on the tourbox and do a demo or two.

In a recent interview video I saw with him, Oliver was showing the final designs for the Evil Filter enclosure. Maybe it'll be coming out next.

My band played a show recently with aptbs and I got a pic of their boards if you wanna see some old old versions of their stuff.

When I saw aptbs a few months ago, Oliver told me that the Evil Filter was basically finished and that they would be put into production as soon as their tour ended. But the tour was extended, and as far as I know they're still on the road. But, indeed it will be the next DBA to drop.

That makes sense. What does the Evil Filter do? Is is like a gnarly fixed wah thing?

The older evil filter was a low pass, high pass, band pass eq with ring mod and fuzz and an expression jack that controlled?

I'm pretty sure I want that to be my first DBA pedal.

the Space Cave was similar to a Boss DM-1, from what i was told a long ass time ago. a friend of mine played it at a music store in NYC way back then. it was really expensive.

I've always wondered if their earlier pedals were derivative, what with all of their current pedals seemingly original designs. I just scored their octave clang and it's a pretty unique take on the octave fuzz.

Dude, yes, please.
I took screen shots of the Evil Filter schematic and it seems pretty straightforward so I'll probably go out and buy the parts to breadboard it next time I get paid.
I want more schematics, though, just so I have a second opinion and because their pedal designs change every couple of seconds.
Also, I had a friend who played with them a few months back in Dallas, but I forgot to ask him to try to get info and the other dude I knew who went to the show forgot to ask them all of my existential questions about pedals.

The "ring" thing is actually just a resonance control. People keep saying it has a ring mod, but it's actually a straight up State Variable Filter. It's basically just a synth module based on this obscure IC and set for 9V.
I haven't seen anything about the fuzz that was later added along with it. From what I've managed to glean there were two different fuzzes, a simple one that looks a lot like the Harmonic Transformer minus the harmonic shape and a fuzz with 6 different potential waveforms.

From what I've seen the Octave clang is a mixture of the Jawari and Bobtavia.
Also, it looks like a lot of their pedals are just stepping stones to the current stuff. The current Fuzz War appears to be an updated version of the older Armageddon minus the Sound Saw filter control, the Apocalypse is the newer Armageddon which is a mixture of a few different fuzzes and harmonic voicings, the Echo Dream 2 can be traced back to the Echo Master and probably even the Space Cave (though I have no idea), etc.
I like that one can actually trace their growing as a company and as builders through all their various forms of the same exact pedal.
Then again, maybe I'm just obsessed.

Cool, I've never played either of those octave fuzz and the dba has a very wide range of tones....I read someone on here recently saying that the octave clang was the worst sounding fuzz pedal they had ever played, or something along those lines, so I knew I had to have one

I just got one earlier this week and it sounds awesome

Since there's only 12 components to the pedal, I'll probably go and build one when I have the time/money.
It's definitely a noisemaker, but I already have good octave pedals.
