Have a strat
dot and SG that I play most of the time
used to have an LTD M with three buckers and a floyd that I flipping loved
thinking about getting a shredder again
don't know what I want
Kinda want an Ibanez S or a jackson?????
Any thoughts?
I know this isn't normal ILF behavior

Consider Schecters. They're not very cool by any means, but every one ive played had a thin, quick neck and felt awesome. The Corsair is fucking sweet if you want another semi hollow.

I have hated every schecter I have ever tried
maybe I am playing the wrong ones
Local GC has a mockingbird for sale.
it seems like the ultimate worship guitar

What about a Kurokumo or Fillmore Mosrite (silvertone 1445 is similar)? Yamaha might be a cool choice too (SGVs!). But yea, I think Yamaha is a bit underrated (I think outside of electronics, it is a better guitar than my fender with a way thinner neck). Not Ibanez thin by any means, but thinner than usual (more like a mosrite with a wider fretboard). Real Mosrites have really thinner necks than the copies too.

korean schecters are hit and miss IMO, i don't really like the finishes on most of them but YMMV. the have a fair variety of models so it's hard to make general statements.
japanese schecters are completely different and fucking great but you'd have to import so that would be in the $700+ range.
i love ibanez wizard necks but they're also in the so-thin-it-might-give-you-muscle-pain camp.
the S series and RGA are uber comfortable shapes but they're all so thin i find them lacking a lot of sustain and depth sound-wise. usually pretty dull-sounding.
if you want something similar to what you're comfortable with already but just that little bit more sleek and fast, look at old-ish charvels maybe?
a used san dimas could be a good option, they feel like a strat but are faster and more rugged/simple.
also peavey made some fucking neat shred guitars in the 80s that you could probably still pick up for peanuts if you look around. like a horizon.

old charvels and peavey is a good idea
always like the way the ernieball necks felt
part of it is just comfort
I have been dealing with a ruptured disk for a few years and it gives me left arm weakness and pain at times
so a lighter action would be cool
any thoughts on parkers?

My friend (best guitar player I ever knew before life stuff happened) loved his parker fly (all black with all the neat stuff on it and a concave body) but he pawned it in a moment of weakness. He swore by that guitar and pretty much gave up after losing it. Crazy light if I remember. He played kinda shredder metal through a 5150 full stack. I don't know about the lesser models (his was like 3k or something). Crazy low action and didn't even really need to be setup.

Check out the Sterling by Music Man series. I have a JP70 and that thing rips and is tons of fun to play.

the standard neck on my EGC is crazy fast. crazy fast. I would not recommend it if you have disk issues though. my EGC is lighter than my LP custom but the weight distribution is in a totally different spot and give me back issues from time to time.
hamer makes some shread-tastic geetz that can be had for not crazy monies.

Fastest guitar I've ever played is my Ibanez 700dx (original, not reissue, FYI

)

Just curious--what do y'all consider the important factors contributing to a fast guitar? Ability to support super low action w/out excess buzz? Very little neck relief? Thin back to front? Flatter fingerboard radius?
Fret size (larger I guess?) Do stainless steel frets make a difference b/c quicker attack transient allows lighter touch which contributes to speed?
All of the above? Anything else?

The Mockingbirds aren't bad (I have one) but the Parker necks and fretboards to me actually feel a little faster when they are setup correctly. I never found a Parker that I could both afford and liked, so that might be the trouble there; the good ones hold their value.
If you want a value shredder, check out the FujiGen-made guitars from the 80's. There were some seriously good Ibanez shred guitars that came out of that factory.
