A number of years ago I got an MXR EVH Phase 90 as a gift. A smaller number of years ago, I plugged it into the wrong kind of power adapter and fried it. I was thinking recently that I could use the leftover enclosure to put a kit pedal into, but the phase 90 only has one knob, so I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a good fuzz that only uses one knob that I could buy as a kit and would also fit into an MXR enclosure.

Electra distortion or bazz fuss?

D*A*M meathead? There are full kits out there, or you could buy the pcb from madbean (called the "snack shack") and get the parts separately. It's similar to a fuzzface, as is the Colorsound one knob fuzz, the creepy fingers fuzzbud, black arts ritual etc. These, along with the electra as mentioned, the cot and endless other variations by lovepedal, are all simple enough to do on vero even as a first build. Or perf: with vero or perf, you can just get the board for pennies, and do the layout yourself in an easy paint-by-numbers way, no specialist tools or knowledge required. Two great resources are:
