we're looking at doing some more spacious stuff, want to try to get my drummer into playing little beep and boops and swirly chibblins. mebbe some little tinkly epiano pieces?
he's not into being a nerd about gear though, so something with a simple patch switching interface, an octave'ish of regulaf sized keys? i can do all the toanz programmings, so not worried about any learning curve on the sound design end.
moop? anything i should look at?

he's using a Roland SPD1, but i'd love him to have something with toanz and keys. he played a bit of keyboard when he was a kicken.
Drone Thingers are awesome, but a little out of his happy comfort range? Bolsa was neat, but i want something with patches and more range ideally?
something like a Micro Korg would be ideal, they make them with full keys instead of those tiny annoyances?

I don't think so. Pretty teeny tiny.

if you were down to let him borrow some of your pedals or use some of his own (if he has some), you could get an old casioish keyboard and run it through your effects. I was gonna recommend a pocket piano, I love mine, works great with pedals too.

keys size - yeah. he's not as clumsy as me, but he has a LOT going on. so i think full size keys are a neccesity.
pedz - shhhhhhh! that's the next step. get him comfy playing little melodies, then when he comes in to practice one day, BLAM. you gots your keys thing running into a Year 2525 and a Particle motherfucker WHAT.

Get him something with big fat keys that he can hit with a drumstick. I bet he'd like that.

Maybe something like this?
Like the whack-a-mole of synths or something. Make him hit it with mallets!

lol. while awesomeness, and something *I* would adore, can not stress how little interest he has in learning synth sruffstuff.

if he REALLY can do sound design, check out the Nord Modular G1. But I have never met a drummer who could do such things. Those that can are called "percussionists".

lol. think you misread. he's one of the smarter people i know, but has NO interest in nerding out with patch design, learning a deeper synth.
why i was looking for something that i could program toanz for, and have it super easy for him to switch between sounds. ideally something smaller, with an attached 1-2'ish octave keyboard.

Well it is easy enough to change patches on the Nord. Keyboard fits your needs and it has KNOBZ.
