Only had about 15 minutes to mess with it tonight, and only with clean guitar. I'll do more testing early next week.

This thing is heavy and very sturdy. Fit and finish is really nice. I'm impressed with the overall aesthetic and feel. Very good stuff.

My initial impression on the tone is that it's quite clean and articulate, but it still sounds like a BBD delay. The filtering too me sounds like a bandbass with more cut on the bass side than treble. The repeats are thinner and brighter than most analog delays I've played. But I don't mean "thinner" in a bad way. There's just a noticeable cut on the low end, and so it never gets boomy. It actually sounds sort of like how some tape delays are EQ'd.

Headroom is pretty damn good and when it does get gritty, it sounds very good.

The specs say 600ms max time, but mine is way more than that. I'll measure later, but it's definitely more than 600ms.

With Mix dimed, the repeats are maybe slightly louder than the dry signal. Or maybe it just sounds a little louder because it's bright.

I think the self-oscillation point on the Regen sweep is way too early. For longer delay times, it tips over at about 12 o'clock. Not sure why they didn't adjust that a bit to even it out. Oscillation is a bit more "skreetchy" than darker delays, but it goes with the territory.

Out of the box, the modulation is too pitchy and obvious for me. I haven't adjusted the trimmers inside yet, but I'm hoping I can tame it way down in depth and also slow the speed a bit. I like it slow and subtle, which sounds a lot more like a real tape delay in good working order. And that's kind of the whole point of modulation on an analog or digital delay.

Looks like all the parts are surface-mount except for the BBDs. And based on the package size, it's safe to say they are Belling BL3208.

Soon I'm going to do a comparison clip with several delays. I really want to hear the Bright head to head with my DMM XO.

They really idiot-proofed those trimmers, huh.

Pretty sure the market for that pedal is 95% blooz lawyers that will cry about not having a printed manual or something like that.

HNPD!

I'm not gonna bitch about the aesthetics, but going by the specs I wonder if it's worth the extra money over something like an Ibanez ES-2 :idk:

Aside from the slightly longer delay time, I guess it'll probably come down to tap tempo vs control over the modulation. Which is the only thing I dislike about the ES2: The modulation is pretty much unuseable imo.

There's only $10 difference between them. I used the ever-present 15% off coupon, so it was $135 shipped. Pretty hard to beat it on value.

Had some more time to play with this thing. It's awesome!

It's EQ'd all thin and hollow on the repeats, which does a great emulation of a Space Echo set for a single playback head (and minus the reverb, of course). And the modulation can be dialed in nice and light, but still with some presence. Of course, there is that "shhhhhh" from the compander you won't hear on a tape delay, and also the ring-mod-ish overtones when the delay time is maxed is unique to BBDs. But still!

I think this pedal is a serious value, in my opinion.
