I want to check out new music, preferably available for free download (mixtapes, free albums, old out of print music that you can download).

I'm mainly into:

alt rock
experimental (rock, hip hop, etc)
hip hop
punk
doom
psychedelic

but there's very few genres that I actually dislike so shoot anything my way.

Check out Maximum Rock and Roll. Some good links there from time to time. Check out the bandcamps and stuff in the "show us your music thread". Follow the blog links off Mad Blasts of Chaos. Check Kill Your Pet Puppy. Always be sure to give Killed By Death a look. Read what bands other people are into. Tons of good suggestions around this site. A lot people/bands are giving stuff away these days on their bandcamps; always give them something if you like it though...gotta support the good stuff.
