Why the proprietary tape cartridge?
Here's hoping [they] wind up being user-serviceable...and not find their way into landfills once that tape wears out

I'm struggling with the idea they'd be disposable in 2015.

So they can make $20 off of you every couple months when you want to buy a new tape

I was pretty interested in it, but there are still really good deals on vintage units out there. If I remember correctly, the price was a bit high. I'll probably give it a try someday though. Be curious how the chorus setting sounds in a real environment.
But expression control of the stepper motor seems neat.

Yeah, when this popped up at winter NAMM I think they said the price was around $799… Certainly not awful for what you get, but definitely makes you look at vintage units as well / instead…

i remember reading that they had been running a tape for 6 months straight and there wasnt much degradation so im sure the tape wont be bad.

@Jero & teej212 I know, my dudes...but with the highcost of oil and energy in general...it seems like a very short-sighted move...considering the history of procuring other proprietary cartridges for 20th century tape delays once they're abandonware. Yes these may be available (for now) for *only $20* but if treated as disposable...that's still a lot of plastic waste.
@lordgalver & fever606...yeah the price is def on the premium side of things...I think the Fulltone SSTE is only $100 more...but tap tempo in a legit tape delay is brand new territory afaik. I'm very intrigued.

Last year when I bought the Moog MF104M Super Delay I thought one $800 delay unit was going to be enough. Apparently I was wrong
I do wonder how roadworthy it is, though.

Probably because there's nothing out there now being made that will work in a small format. If you want to keep things small, you have to make your own everything. Regular old cassettes won't work since they aren't a continuous loop.
But I'll bet that the cartridges will be user-refillable, whether they want you to or not. I'm just curious as to the size of the tape. It sort of looks like 1/8" in the pics.

I posted this in another thread but if you missed it... i recently picked up a Space Case Echo. I chose this over the TRex for a lot of reasons... most of them are listed on their site so check it out for the specifics.
(any tape can be used and any tape you use changes the tone)

It's ambient tape bliss IMO. So many setting variations to get some really unique sounds out of it even for tape. I love that i can easily just swap out any tape at all so maintenance is a breeze. I also love that he incorporated HI-Z inputs and DI so it's a great studio tool. Even has built in OD.
I'm going to be doing some real clips now that i got my Macbook Pro back to record on but in the meantime here's some quick clips i did on my phone when i first got it... just some random notes and random setting adjustments to get a feel for how it sounds:

Lovely. Bummer I cant afford this rn and I suspect they're going to be out of stock for a while anyway.
Dibs on your flip if it comes to that
Or maybe I could talk myself into parting with one of the best sounding DMMs...which would be perfectly justifiable in this context but still regrettable. Arrrrrrrg

He just started building the guitar version (mine was the first or second sent out) so there should be plenty more to come. Also, keep in mind you don't HAVE to buy all the additional options which helps with the price... a little.
