I doubt many of you guys knew him, but Hugh Hopper - the Soft Machine bassist - died yesterday. Not sure why, probably somthing cancer-related.
He was one of three or four guys that really got me into fuzz bass.
For those of you that haven't heard the Softs, I hope you like them. (And are in the mood for some jazzy stuff)

cant put it in words...
in this year, elton dean, linda cohen, pip pyle, joe zawinul... it really sucks bigtime when your heroes die.
some years ago i saw him when in softworks along with allan holdsworth, elton dean and john marshall, everybody was saying "what are those old farts are gonna play?... let's prepare for some slow and boring music or some jazz standards"
WRONG!
that was the first time i head music from the future, it was amazing and ironic at the same time, the difference of what you where looking on stage and what was coming out of the speakers... not jazz nor rock.
everybody was put in their place and confronted with their own ignorance, with a major display of grace and exactitude. it has to be nice to do that as a modus vivendi.
he wrote most of the material of the soft machine's "4" album, watch the video!!!
