Am I mad?

Short scale (30") bass/VI converted to bass strings doubled with regular guit strings on bottom/lowest 3 strings, then regular guit strings with XII string dones on the high notes.

Can it be done?

Viable contenders? Gibson shorty SG? kinda want a shorty Ric 4003?

How to do bridge?

Was thinking giut+bass pups, stereo out?

Discuss.

Edit: Tuning is either C standard or A on guit (I haven't decided).

Yeah I think you're mad. Not because of the guitar/bass idea. That's a good idea. But yeah I think your cheese has slid of its cracker. Get some help dude. Just kidding man.
The extended range bass idea is killer dude. Post the progress if you decide to build.
I know in the late 60s Hagstrom built 8 string basses that were like the bass version of 12 string guitars. They were set up in 4 dual course strings. Each an octave apart. E-e, A-a, D-d, G-g

Yeah, I've seen the old Hamer ones. They're pretty rad.
Well, my mental condition in general requires a whole seperate thread.

 That's Billy Sheehan playing a Yamaha baritone 12. (Not sure of the scale length.)

Really? I didn't recognise him (clearly).
So Bari 12s are a thing. Rad. This may just get a whole lot easier.

Don't know how common bari 12s are, you might have a difficult time finding one. Your conversion scheme may be easier.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking.
An inverse schecter stargazer body is starting to look really appealing.

Ok, so fucking Aen just convinced me to get a Schecter Ultra 6 and bastardise it.
Wondering if there's room for those sneaky drone tunres that sit behind the headstock....
He's also convinced me to get a pitchgrinder...

FUCKING THANKS, AEN.

I'm going to say this: That Yamaha is one of the tackier ones I've seen (finish wise) but it is awesome that it is a 12 string bari. And The picture is just a typical dorky guitar ad picture. I was excited because it was like the day of the flying samurai. Eivind, UC, me, Dandolin, and Chankgeez all mentioned them in like the period of an hour...weird.

Now, I'd never seen that Schecter before...Freaking awesome! I'm more interestested in the pitchgrinder now too. Yea, thanks Aen.

Maybe try to find an old short scale teisco or univox bass that isn't in so hot of shape and recut a nut and stuff? Can't wait to see what you come up with man.
