High gain mid heavy distortion pedal?

I was thinking something a bit Peavy-ish, I heard a Peavy Vypyr the other day on one of the Peavy models and it sounded really good. Something with a mid range boost/scoop knob would be helpful, but it has to boost it quite bit.
Think kind of like Josh Homme's slightly freaky bubbly sounding mid heavy tones, though a little less mid heavy maybe.

I've got a blackstar HT-distx. It's got a Sovtek 12AX7-WA tuve on it and a 'ISF' control, which basically, is a mid-scoop. It's a nice high gain distortion, and if you can change the tube for a better one it can be a pretty nice pedal.
It's got written on it 'pure valve filth' nd it's pretty cool by the way.

If it's tube based it'll need a sperate power supply though won't it. I don't really have enough plugs.

Bummer.
I was gonna suggest the Guyatone Metal Monster.
It's got bass treble and mid knobs, AND a mid scoop. As well as gain and volume. It's really versatile. but tube based. and 12v. womp :[

Tube based pedals are going to be pretty expensive too. In my experience there's nearly always a cheaper alternative to an expensive pedal, if it's something generic like "Mid heavy distortion".

The Fulltone OCD is great, lots of gain plus an LP/HP switch that'll scoop or boost the mids, respectively. There are different versions though and I think each version sounds a little different. I have v.3 right now which I love but I think they're on v.4 right now and I don't know how much of a difference there is between the two. You should be able to pick one up for ~$145.

The OCD always sounded kinda sterile and generic to me personally. I'm looking for something with a lot of character.

The OCD is more of an overdrive. It's exactly like a wylde overdrive in tone, with a bit more highs.
Tubescreamer?

eh, I know it's billed as an overdrive but it has a lot of distortion in it, much more so than any tubescreamer.

Almost all high gain pedals fail miserably...the toneczar openhaus is one of the only convincing pedals I've heard.
It is quite pricey but gives you full control over the mids with knobs and toggles.
I'm sure it's out of the question, but that doesn't stop it from being the best option imo.
By the time your name comes up on the wait list you'll probably have the cash
Outside of that, I've heard the Barber Dirty Bomb is fairly convincing...it doesn't have a mids knob, but there is a 3 way toggle (neutral, bumped, scooped).

I still don't get the hype about tubescreamers. I just don't and i probably never will.
does somebody wanna tell me why people swoon at their general direction?
and MBT, don't get me wrong, i really, REALLY want an OCD. I've had the money to buy them too many times, and i've always bought some other crazy pedal instead
oh well.

Maybe not high gain enough for you, but perhaps
this or
this might be worth considering.

i think it's between the SCO and Dirty Bomb. The Dirty Bomb is a very impressive high gain pedal. I rememer seeign another pedal that had a crazy responsive mid control on it, but I forget which it was now. The SCO seems to have a problem SQUELCHING though which puts me off, and the dirty bomb has a more impressive gain range(higher and lower). I o like te more orangey voicing of the SCO though, and it has more mids. Though there's only certain tones I need mids for.

Maybe I just need another Fuzz. I mean it's hard to have too many Fuzz pedals. I need a moe "general use" fuzz that's still higher gain than my LBM. Maybe with a mid boost. See I used to always say that proper fuzz needed scooped mids, but at the same time you get that interesting bubbly effect cranking them. Not for playing teh Corgans though.

What about a Rat, or Tusk from EQD? BM with wicker? Dirty Lil Secret (with a boost)?
I've never been a fan of the dirty bomb. It sounds artificial IMO.
