I'm so sorry This sounds horrible. Would sound proofing your house help?

In my house it was students waking me up at 5 in the morning with shouting AUAURURUGHHHH, banging on things. and watching DVDs. They are more like monkeys than humans, in all honesty. I came out to tell them to shut the fuck up, and they were all "OH HEY THERE RED HEAD AAHH" and then one tried to jump in over the wall into our garden, and some scammy girl was in the drive way. They really were more like some kind of monkey-rat hybrid than people.

Unfortunately even though they've moved back for the summer I have to move anyway, as the mould in that house is making me extremely ill.

I can't think of any reasonable resolution right now, it's not as if he's going to stop playing drums and sell his kit, or get into Indie instead. Maybe you should try talking to him about soundproofing and keep telling him how you'd rather not get anyone "involved" but if it comes to that, you have important work to do and it's much too loud. You might be intimdated by him, but guys like that are often wusses if you threaten the law, or even just imply it.

I would also try to talk to some more of your neighbours, take them around while it's happening, and see if you can get them to report it too even if they wouldn't normally. The cops would have to do something then.

My neighbor has in fact on more that one occasion come over and asked us to stop. In fact, the 8 times we went past curfew and had finished by 10:20, there were angry notes on my door 3 times, followed by two more angry notes accompanied by pounding, until the night it culminated to the arguement, which ended with her saying "I have to wake up and save lives for a living." I guess that's what happens when you move into a neighborhood that consists of 2 other renters on the whole block besides yourselves, and an apartment building. Well one time, a room in the apartment had a fire, and they evacuated the whole apartment, for enough time to my crafty retired lawyer neighbor to get a petition signed for our block to become a 2hr parking zone without zone stickers, just to encourage the renters to leave.

Then i moved out, and my new room mates wouldn't even let me play electric guitar in the house

That totally blows. Do you guys have the same landlord? Either way tell your landlord you're going to move if nothing is done about it. That means it's now going to cost your landlord $, maybe enough for THEM to take action, especially since he'll have to deal with it again with whoever takes your place. Leases are usually pretty detailed about this stuff (both the a-hole drummer's and yours) so legally you have a lot on your side. I'm a landlord myself and have had to look into a lot of this stuff. But if your landlord doesn't give a shit you'd probably have to go the legal route which can take a lot of your energy. Really sucks to move but if downsizing works better for you anyway then I'd go for it.

Ok, so here I am, sleeping my dumbass off, and same thing you have, metal jizz all over the place. So I go out, fire my shotgun in the air a couple times, the fuckers come out to investigate (because a gunshot is louder than metal) and when they come out, I scream at them random curses then fire a shot really high over them (because I was literally RIGHT next to them) and go inside and it rains buckshot on them. They stopped. Which is good, because at that time I had a pipe bomb ready to go. I would NOT liek to have had to use it.

Then I moved anyway and now I'm surrounded by old people who mow their lawn obsessively, and then call the town on me when I mow grass into the road and don't blow it away. FUCKERS. So I go over to their yard, at 3 in the morning with a bottle of GrassKiller and kill a big ol' SAD FACE (this guy minus the eyebrows ) in his yard.

You can come to Rochacha, but maybe right not next to me...but I won't scare you...I promise.

Have you told your landlord? They may help you since the unit will be un-rentable with the guys next door.

If they're "musicians", they may have heard of you. You could pull a "Don't you know who I am?" Then run down some of your more famous clientele. He'll be so awed that he'll be more accomodating.

Devi the irony of you being beaten by noise is just too sad. You have to invent some kind of remote interference device that makeas his friends' amp play nothing but "Um Bop".

I think you should consider what I said though, get another neighbour to testify for you too and get them to tell them to soundproof.

Moving really sucks, I have to look for a place now too. It''s probably a good place to move given the recession, but you'll have to give notice and all this crap.

I've been in similar situations on several occasions and unfortunately the only realistic option to tackle it is to talk to the offending bastard, which you've done with the note. I totally understand not wanting to actually confront the guy, last time I did that it turned nasty and the people causing the noise in my apartment building starting leaving notes all over the place accusing me and my then g/f of things, like dropping bottles of wine and not clearing it up (which they did). It was horrible. Retaliation, however tempting, never really does any good.

It's always incredibly frustrating, more so when the supposed authorities do sweet fuck all when you complain about it. I would take it as fate sending you a message and move. It's a pain in the ass, but your sanity isn't something that can be valued.

Mind you, the note may well work and he might turn it down. Weirder things have happened. But in my experience, if people are ignorant enough to make that much noise without considering other people in the first place, then they aren't going to care when people complain to them.

Some people just suck.
