Awesome bands that just seemed to vanish.

Thanks to a recent post in the "what are you listening to right now thread" I heard a great song by a band called The Groupies. Some really cool 60s Garage Blues Rock. While trying to find more info and songs by this band, I found very little info about them or songs recorded by them. It seems they recorded a single then vanished like a fart in a windstorm. Anyone out there know what happened to them?

What other awesome bands do you know that this happened to?

SUN
featured on the 2xLP LIVE FROM CBGB's album right before the rise of punk ~1976

Squirrel Bait
1 short EP, 1 short album...about 45min total content in their discography. The only known, live footage of the band happens to be of their (best? a fav fo sho) song

Cherry Forever
Released their lone 4 song EP in '92; one I consider right up there with the crown jewels of the Shoegaze & Dream Pop bands.

Well, you can't say Squirrel Bait disappeared, it just spawned a whole lot of other great bands (Slint, Bastro, Bitch Magnet, For Carnation, Gastr del Sol). I totally miss my old bootleg cassette copy of the EP though.

I can and did, being well acquainted with the SB family tree beyond the bands you mentioned. :)*
SB as a band just seemed to vanish at their peak, they were really onto something...and I daydream about where it would have gone for a sophomore album, when hearing any of their 18 tracks.

Those albums sound better on cassette

Rome.http://www.thrilljockey.com/thrill/Rome ... WynkKOzR-1 they were a post-rock group on Thrill Jockey. one full length, one 12" and gone. they're hard to find because a rapper co-opted the name "Rome."

All Of Green. I know what happened to them, the bassist was in a half-dozen other bands, plus they were all pretty hard partiers (enough said) and never got big enough that their "normal" life took a backseat to music. But they recorded one record and they were sitting on dozens of unrecorded, perfectly-rehearsed songs. It's bizarre that they never pursued it further given that none of the side-projects are as good (The Olympic Symphonium being the exception).

Well, it's to be expected of kids coming out of high school. They get on with their lives, go off to college, etc. Don't get me wrong, as a punk kid growing up around Louisville in the 90s, that shit was my soundtrack. I would have given anything for a second album, but I think it was for the best. Who knows if we would have gotten Slint or Gastr if SB had continued?

neon and I were discussing the Sargent House band Native the other day.

Their web presence just kind of stopped over the last year. I'm friends with a couple of the members on social media and it seems like their all going to school or working for Janice or doing whatever. If they were done I just wish they would release an official statement or something. They used to be my favorite band.

Siege. RIP

Every dang Plotkin project (he just don't update his site, he's doing stuff)

Hammersmith Guerrillas.

Zolar X.

Geza X and the Mommymen (I actually just saw them though one time reunion thing, but Geza X was such a big part of the California stuff for a while and then gone).

Christian Lunch.

Iowaska.

Thanks to whatever immortal power above/below that the Cravats came back into the world.

The other dudes from KUKL.

Bass player from the Causey Way (and the keyboard guy too)

Joe Tex.

Also, I agree about all that 60s garage stuff. It shoulda stuck around (but because it didnt is why we like it in part)

Land of Talk. At least there's three great albums I guess so better than some of these examples, but they disappeared with no explanation and I want so much more.

Aw man, Native. I remember my friend and I found those guys (I think it was Myspace) and were so happy we were obsessed for a while. Spent like a week trying to figure out if we should ask them to come to the UK to tour with us. Hahaha, I think we made contact and they were really nice guys, but it never happened.
