I watched this documentary last night and it really stuck with me. I was never a huge Nirvana fan. They were, weirdly enough, a big part of my childhood. My parents were really into them and I remember my mom crying when Kurt Cobain died. Anyways, this movie was pretty good.

Had a friend say she thought it was excellent. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but hoping to soon. I think his daughter had a part in creating it, sounds like people who knew him feel like it is a pretty fair representation.

I enjoyed it for the most part. The home movies, drawings and poetry, his early juvenilia recordings, narration to animation in his own voice. The interviews were mostly good; Krist, his mom, girlfriend and Courtney Love being the ones worth hearing. His dad and step mom not so much. Her rhetoric, while informative radiates the TOTAL BITCH vibe. Will watch again.
It's sad without fishing for sympathy, and provides some valuable insight into one of the last great troubled voices in American guitar music. Feels like I better understand where he was coming from.
I can't believe it's been 21 years...

I wonder if he hadn't died, would the music have gotten really interesting, or would they have just sounded like the foo fighters or pearl jam or stone temple pilots or some shit?

Been meaning to watch this, but it's pretty long (2 1/2 hrs!)
Having said that, my two personal meetings with Kurt did not leave me with a good impression...

Nirvana was the first thing I ever cared about.
This movie is really just about Kurt's domestic life. It uses the art as backdrop and motivating force but it's not about the art.
I wish they'd talked to Tobi Vail.

Deeply humanizing.

My dad said "That was so depressing I feel like jumping out of a window."
and I dunno, I thought it was well put together but I didn't really need to see 40 minutes of Kurt and Courtney being really strung out junkies who look like they should've died of starvation.

It was really just the haircut scene that got to me...

I feel like I could have seen in 20 minutes what it took them 2.5 hours to show.

Some parts were a little drawn out. It was good though. I didn't know about what happened after Nevermind in terms of the reporting about their heroin use.
I couldn't imagine becoming famous - now (at age 30) or at the age Kurt did. It would be so overwhelming and unbearable.
It's really sad because he seemed like a true genuine human being. Sensitive, in-tune, affected by all the phony bs people exhibit.

I had those cassettes, back when. Anyone else?
Oh, nostalgia...
