Studio strength bass amp for under a G?

was rockin the orange terror bass combo, a badass little amp that shook the walls and scared the animals. Then somebody bought that shit on reverb because I kind of forgot it was for sale.

Want to replace it with something more studio friendly, but still ballsy and powerful.

Looking for something that takes pedals, but stays pretty clean in its natural state.

Tube or SS? New or used? Hi-fi or mo-jo? In other words; in which general direction are you looking, what kind of tones do you aim for?

No preference. To make matters worse, I almost opened up the subject of DI vs amp, but I became a supporting member at talkbass instead, which I assume will get me into heaven no matter what I watch online.

But, I originally thought I would seek out an ampeg B25. That's what I want, but you know, something relatively quiet and reliable.

Then I started thinking about a Science Sister, and now reality is crumbling around me.

WHat type of tone are you after? Post an example.

What other gear do you use?

Find an Acoustic 370 and never look back because nothing is as good.

If you are interested in the B25, I'd recommend a V4.
They are pretty similar tone wise but you'll get more volume & headroom from the V4.

I'm going to say Hartke. It's the best clean amp I've ever heard. It's 1000 watts and only cost like 400 new, so you could get a used one for cheaper. It also has a tube pre if you're into that.

I'm not a fan of Ampegs, I just don't like the way they sound or Orange for that matter. But I know they both make quality gear.

But for a good amp, you've got a LOT of options for that price.

GK 700 or 1001 haven't been suggested yet, so yeah.

I can vouch for the GK 700. That is what Aen uses on a bunch of our bass demos.

GK stuff is rad. So is Hartke stuff, actually -- they definitely have a tone you can't dial out though (and it's gross, particularly in combination with those aluminum speakers).
