Make Soni's Board... WWYP???

After all this talk about ripping and flipping everything and why we do things wrong at ILF I wanted to try this lil thing...

Arrange my pedals in whatever way you choose and tell us why if you feel like it... Any combo or order... It's mostly (99%) Dirt and Delay but it's my shit not yours... No adding pedals or asking why I don't have or it'd be better with; just these... Use as many or as few as you want...

What Would You Play???

1. Algal Bloom
2. TAFM
3. Elements
4. Green Muff
5. Megalith
6. DOD Bass Grunge
7. HM-2
8. El Cap
9. ILFDD
10. Cloudbuster
11. MF Delay (x2)
12. DD-5
13. RRR (x2)
14. Tremulust
15. Dinosaur Flanger
16. Ice Box Chorus
17. Shitari Trip Synth
18. Chrome 535Q
19. Magic Meter
20. Ibby Bottom Booster

That's some of what's laying around and seems to be what gets used the most...

Tell me how to be cool like you... :idk:

:snax:

Megalith>Elements>DD5>bottom boost.
And because you need a flanger, stick that in wherever.

Simplicity and utility is my trip lately, those things cover all the bases and sound good without having to haul all your dicksniffer shit out and about.
Bottom Booster set to make everything bigger, like the output section of a BAT pedal.

CP Jazzy -> Dinosaur flanger (always on, zero feedback, low depth/manual, medium rate) -> RRR (always on hall verb)-> Bottom Booster (use whenever dirt is on)-> Algal Bloom? (whatever is your favourite medium gain dirt, use in conjuction with BB for a low-heavy dirty channel) -> DD-5 (cold digital rhythmic delay when you want it) -> amp of choice

the only reason i say that is because it's what i would use if i was first putting together a setup out of that gear
you might want heavier heavies but the flanger and reverb is where it's at for a start anyway

Shitari>Tremulust>RRR>Algal>Elements>RRR>MF Delay (set approx 300ms)>RRR>ILFDD (set at max, with some mod)>Magic Meter

I'd put a flanger or a chorus after the Elements, but the buffers in your modulation will make the Magic Meter sound less magic, so something's gotta give, and it's not going to be Tom. Algal running on low gainy fuzzy drive mode. Also, I'd swap that Algal for a dual Suneater...

My logic: Bleeps first. Trem>verb is sex. Bleeps getting trem'd, into verb must be even better. Then dirt. RRR>low gain dirt = good. But for traditional sounds you've got your RRR post dirt as well. Elements for chunka chunkas. Short delay for solos and ambience. Long delay for crazy fun times. And low gain dirt to dirt up everything.
I like trem before dirt, especially low gain dirt, because it also modulates how much distortion you get out of your distortion, which is a nice dynamic touch I think.

See, I'm more of a "fuck bleeps, destroy." kinda dude, but I don't bleep well anyway.

Those of you with bleep chops feel free to educate me.

I am reaching critical beerness.

I personally like to keep it simple, and only haul around the shit that actually gets a lot of use. I'm not at all a less is more kinda guy, but I still think it makes sense to get the most out of as little as possible gear, just for the sake of convenience. Less peds means less power, less hum or signal loss, lighter/smaller board,..

So I'd try to get all my dirt from the TAFM (raw gnarly superfuzzyness) and HM-2 (raw fizzy brootalz), and use the Elements for everything else. Big Muffs are overrated. There, I said it :p

I have a thing for shitty old dod dirt though, so the Bass grunge might get a spot on my board too, just for the hell of it.
I'm mostly a dirt+delay/verb kinda guy myself, so aside from the RRR, the Moog delay and the DD-5 (reverse mode ftw), I'd stick to one or two modulation pedals at most. Just a straight forward chorus or flanger does the trick for me. I'm not a big fan of wahs either. They take up a lot of space and monies, and only show up once in a while in a solo or intro thing, and always balance between being classy/tasty/hendrixy and being over the top and hair metalish. Whatever, it's probably just me

I don't usually bother messing with effects loops, or with unconventional pedal orders. Having at least one dirt pedal sandwiched between your delays can be fun though, or vice versa.

So yeah, pretty 'bread and butter', with not too many trippy synthy noise makers that hardly ever find their way into a decent song anyway.

I haven't played most of the dirts you have, so you'd probably want to change them anyway. I would set it up something like RRR>HM-2>favorite fuzz>bottom boost>tremolo>el cap>dd-5>RRR. I dunno, the more I thought of it the more I wanted to add. I really like tremolo, and it's an effect that IMO doesn't get old, as I find vibrato/chorus/flanger etc does. Also reverb>dirt is my favorite thing. Love the el cap and I would not ditch it for anything, and stacking delays are great for ambience. One specialized and one versatile.

Honestly though, I'd make it work with all of it. I dig big boards. I even find lugging my shit around totally worth it. I have a super heavy DIY pedalboard made of wood that barely fits in a hockey trunk. Been thinking of downsizing, but then I turn on everything and realize I ain't no minimalist person. The above suggestion would be my answer given like a 7 pedal limit

I'd keep it simple. Jazzmaster > tafm > dd5 > tremolust. I'm a less is more kinda guy. When I have too many pedals I just get obsessed with tweaking knobs rather than actually playing anything meaningful. I guess it really depends what you plan on doing with your board.

Also, one can never have too much fuzz :!!!:
