"In the Shop Tonight," season 2: Engraving Boogaloo

The next few batches of pedals will have a different visual style based on a new technique. These are powder-coated and then the graphic has been engraved through the powder coat, giving an inverted look in which the lettering is shiny metal and the background is colored. The engraved areas have the same 3-dimensional angled cut as usual, though it's hard to see in the pictures.
This first batch of Subterraneas are finished in a "black vein" powder coat. These are in the shop right now.
http://ironether.com/shopFor anybody who prefers the more usual IE paint style, don't worry - this will not be a permanent change. I just enjoy experimenting with new ideas and thought it would be interesting to try something a bit different. More Subterraneas, both in this style (but different colors) as well as the usual transparent airbrushed look are on the way. Some of the other pedals will also receive the inverted treatment soon.

I actually did not do the powder coat myself, but had it done by somebody local to me, then I engraved them here in my shop on the CNC machine. I'm not sure about the exact paints/chemicals they use to get this effect but I believe it's similar to hammertone paint in that there are colored particles floating in silicone oil or lacquer. I'm now looking into getting some hammered-style paints that will work in my airbrush, as I'd like to experiment more with this and I like doing as much as I can in-house.

These Xerograph Deluxes (or Xerographs Deluxe if you prefer) are finished in a pewter vein powder coat, then they were engraved and then a hand-rubbed ink wash was applied to bring out the texture and accentuate the labels for legibility. They're in the shop now.

WANT SO BAD.
How many of these are there? I need to know if I flip something quick to get this, that it will still be here for me to get it.

New Subterraneas - back to airbrushville. I had a particularly good raspberry tea that inspired the color scheme this time. ;-)
