Talk about it. Post it. Slag it. Worship it.
I don't care as long as it's heavy.
Go.

Wohooo!

Not so much shreds, or particularly heavy, but it's a party.

Also, most of the stuff below is SFW (except the Deicide clip), but it is just too much death metal for one post haha. But it's all rad.
Ok. First pick is only two guys. No bass. And it is drum shred, not guitar shred. But fuck it. It is awesome. Unfortunately all of the uploads are 240px, which sucks.

Yes. Every note in this tune syncs to the bug scene out of King Kong. For that alone Ron Jarzombek is worthy of praise.

Yes, Deicide have released a total of three fully good albums, and this is not one of them. But Ralph Santolla can shred like nobody's business and the video is rad, so it gets a guernsey.

And speaking of Glen Benton, this song has the best sweeps ever. I defy anyone interested in heavy music not to love the shit out of it when they kick in at around 2:20. Epic build up followed by... even more epic epicness. Then Benton does his thing which is always fun. And then the harmonies get even more epic. I love it.

99.8% of the time I hate harmonized leads and sweeps. They inevitably sound so fucking lame and cheeseball.
What makes it hard is that I love this sort of music.

Right you are my friend!
Love that municipal waste album.
Though, I would agree in as much as it is easier to learn to sweep than to learn the judicious use of said technique. 9 times out of ten I'd take a solo like pretty much anything Andreas Kisser has played to dudes who go nuts on arpeggios. But done right I can dig it!

I realise that my statistics are somewhat similar to yours dos, but you're referring to hatred in absolute terms and I'm referring to preference. Meh, I probably agree with you more than I admit.
Fuck it. Shreds rule.

I sweep my arpeggios so fast the pleebs think I'm playing chords.

For the record, I intended this to be a thread for all things heavy.
I like the mostly thrash direction we are moving in right now, though.
But, I do believe you can shred a riff, not just leads.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this thinking.

YUSSS!!!
I kind of loved the last Prong non-covers album - it was such a strange mashup of thrash and jangle and strum and navelgazing lyrics. Tommy Victor can't go for more than two bars of a song without throwing in a pinch harmonic or two, though.

Probably going to have to go see Periphery soon, so I gotta get my sweep tolerance a whole lot higher than it is right now.
They're so lame, though.

You've gotta build that sweep tolerance! We can get you a sweep regimen! Kind of like a hyper-fit, lean version of The Doom Workout. Since prog metal amps weigh so much less, it's more about the reps than the lbs...

Better get to work on dem sweeps bro!
I can't stand periphery. Animals as Leaders are about the only band of that ilk I dig.
Prong are fucking metal! They do have a um... diverse quality level with their recorded work. I'm so putting snap your fingers snap your neck on here as soon as I get off the mobile.

There is no heavy without Devy.
Fuck this album turned 10 years old last week.
What happened to my 20s?

Pretty much everything I know about metal I've learnt here since I joined so congrats, you guys drastically changed my appreciation of da brootz. As a result though I pretty much only know Stoner/Doom, Black Metal and Mathcore bands. I also know that Djent really isn't for me, like ever forever.
Continue to teach me oh great professors of metal!
