Modding a MXR Stereo Tremolo?

Has anyone ever messed around with the speed control on this or any other trem?
I want to see if by replacing the pot, I can get a wider range = way slower or faster
than it already is. Is this doable?

It is possible. That all depends on;
- existing pot size
- resistors around that part of the circuit
- cap(s) size(s) for that part of the circuit
I don't have a schematic of that circuit, so it's impossible to say what to change to achieve the desired result. It is possible though, it just requires knowing which components are involved, and experimenting with different values to get the desired result.

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that changing a pot could change rate on a tremolo, will do some research!

I have that MXR Tremolo (as well as the first version, the Dunlop) and min and max speed cover a lot of range, what do you have in mind OP? Ring modulator-ish?

Mostly, I'm using the stereo pan mode on this guy and I want it to go
s l o w e r . . .

Did you end up performing the mods?

Also, how in Niel Youngs name did you open up the unit?
I tried a 3mm Allen key, that was to big, and a 2.5mm, to small?!

Thanks in advance!

Whoa. Cool idea. What is the low end of the rate range on that thing anyway? How slow can you go?

Never modded the MXR….instead I got my hands on the Boss PN-2 which pans super slow.
I split the signal, run one cable into the Boss super slow pan, run the 2nd into
the MXR at mid-tempo pan (or mono pulse) and it's queasiness on the high seas!
