how do these two fare against each other? How much overlap do they have? Are their pitch-tracking capabilities comparable?

they're preeeetty different pedals
i never had tracking issues with either but the Vitruvian Mod is the only one that does the synthy pitch tracking ring mod stuff, Ring Thing is versatile as a normal ring mod and can do pitch shifting, phaser, trem stuff too but not the same as the Vitruvian Mod.
I'm not sure if i'd recommend one over the other, they're both really cool but it depends what kinda sounds you're after. If you literally just need ring modulation and having it track the input pitch would be useful i'd say the Vitruvian Mod is the way to go just for being a bit more no-nonsense approach. FWIW though i think the big box moogerfooger ring mod sounds better than both but it's a little unwieldy i guess.
The reason I sold these ones was the Ring Thing did a lot of things relatively well but i preferred having individual pedals that did each thing really well, and the Vitruvian Mod just didn't end up being used very much. I will say that the pitch tracking ring mod on that is really great for stacking pre-dirt and will get you much more unique sounds than your average pitch shifter/octaver pedals.

Hmm! Thanks for the thorough reply. Maybe I shouldn't pass on the subdecay then.

The Pitchfactor's Synthonizer mode also seems like a contender for the pitch tracking stuff, though...
