Short-scale telecaster -- potential problems?

So I really want to put together a shortscale Telecaster (either a custom or thinline). I figure I'll get a jaguar neck. I know the pocket will leave a gap, but that doesn't concern me. What concerns me is everything else...

So, I'll have to move the bridge up 1.5", that is for sure. Which means the bridge PUP will have to move as well. Which means custom pickguard. Is that all I will have to deal with? It doesn't sound too difficult...

yeah, that's it. If you get a body without a bridge route it may be easier for you, provided you have the tools. Bill Frisell has a telecaster with a jaguar neck:

For me, I wouldn't try to fuck with this unless either the body is made for the neck or the neck is made for the body. (I'm guessing the former is the cheaper option if you can find an accommodating shop.) If the best you can do is get an accommodating neck pocket, the bitch of it will be getting the bridge placement right, and with it the bridge pickup route. Like Weed-Killer said, omitting that pickup route and doing it yourself might make it smoother. A top-loader bridge would at least save you the trouble of the through-body string routing.

Rondo. They've got 24" tele styles for <$100.

ICBW, but if the body and bridge measurements are designed for that scale, if you aren't happy with the stock neck it should be easy/easier to replace it with a Jaguar neck.

I've decided to just building a regular scale tele instead. Maybe another time!

I know OP said they decided to do a normal scale tele, but I figured I'd reply to this anyway. Based on one of their 24" strat copies that I had a few years ago, I'd avoid this unless you have small hands (or at least smaller than mine, since my hands are fairly big). The 24" scale strat copy's lower frets were awkward as fuck for me to play on because the neck was pretty narrow, so my hand was pretty cramped up there and I had to be careful to not unintentionally mute strings. It was well built, and sounded nice imo, but those lower frets made me hate playing the thing. This might be something worth considering if anyone else is considering this...
