FLANGERS

because there isn't enough discussion about flangers around here, and nobody on the internet wants to make a flanger forum it seems.

what are your favourites?

it's my favourite type of effect and i'm always searching for something cooler but i would love some ILF wisdom before dropping money on nice expensive things or dubious vintage mojo points

*currently i have:
Boss BF-2 - solid, a little dark-sounding but one of those pedals you can't really go wrong with
Guyatone FL-3 - a little brighter than the BF-2, way good for trippy sounds with the controls maxed, although the clock noise is kinda noticeable and it doesn't like being daisy chained
behringer flanger machine - surprisingly good, scary amount of control, can do amazing noise stuff and actually does a fair job emulating vintage analog flanger sounds
modded turnipfarmfx A/DA clone - awesome overall vibe/tone, close to perfect but the LFO has a weird sort of 'swing' to it (almost closer to a square wave) which i'm not as fond of
Bitquest - overall nice sounding, maybe lacking the same lush-ness as analog options but still good and bonus points for having a mix control
Ibanez DML10 - technically functions like any other flanger but it's way better as a delay, all the flanger sounds are really dry and lifeless.

*have also used:
Boss HF-2 - more subtle than the BF-2 and much nicer on bass, might have to pick up another now i use Bass VI a lot.
TC Vortex - could not gel with it at all, very synthetic and compressed sounding to my ears
Ibanez CF7 - very good for the money but overall i didn't feel inspired by it, kinda dull. isn't purple.
Digitech XP models and Line 6 M5 models were all neat but not something i would have those units exclusively for. and neither are purple.
Strymon Mobius - decent, but not really any better than the analog options that are cheap in comparison. isn't purple.

*stuff that seems awesome but is either rare or expensive or i can't find a decent demo or is not purple and thus not actually a flanger:
Boss BF-1 (is it much different to a BF-2? the BF-2 came out soon after and has the same controls)
Guyatone Moving Box
Morley Pro bigass chrome pedalflanger UG signature edition (i would love one of these but have not seen a 240v model anywhere and they cost a fortune to ship)
Lovetone ? Flange (seems incredible but way expensive, curious whether there are cheaper pedals based on it)
Tycobrahe Pedalflanger (yeah right  )
EHX Electric Mistress (have had issues with vintage EHX i've had before and new EHX is unappealing to me so i've put off looking into these, but maybe they're neat?)
HBE Frostbite (kayzer demo made me curious but i think they're discontinued now?)
Moog Cluster Flux (really interested in this one but kinda very expensive)
Strymon Orbit (i can't see myself liking it more than the analog options but the feature set is amazing)
Carlsbro flanger
Univox FL-1000

by all means just partake in general flanger discussion, i want this to be a place where those of us who love flangers can share our stories free of judgement or oppression.

Old Arion flangers are cool on the cheap. Have some sweet leslie/faux vibrato tones and this really cool earthy grind type sound on low feedback n slow settings.

But the bypass kinda sucks, and theres a decent volume boost when engaged (On both of tthe units I had).

backwardsvoyager, you should grab that Yamaha flanger from the Iommic Pope. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I don't know much enough bout flangers

SrS

I've used ibanez chorus flanger, stereo electric mistres...

I'm looking to get the TC vortex and Ibanez Airplane Flanger...maybe that Zero Point.

I want to like flange but I like stereo ins and outs on pedals. I suck.

You're totally right, i forgot about that. I love Yamaha gear and generally-regarded-as-unfashionable 80s aesthetic so that should have been a no-brainer. PM'd him!

looking at my current finances, foxrox is bust. so it's bust or bust there.
i would SUPER love one of those though.

i wish there were more stereo in/out flangers too. i'm partial to analog ones though so none of the existing ones have really appealed to me.
super interested in the catalinbread zero point too, it's $200 and has no knobs so i'm gonna need to hear a really nice demo to be convinced though.

true story, I traded a pocket knife (a shitty one at that) for my first flanger pedal, an Arion. Good sound, that pedal. Had stereo too

I'm a disciple of the HF-2. I love the way it sounds with a PS-2, perfect for my cold, metallic sounds.

As I've mentioned before, as far as digital flangers go, the TC Vortex isn't too bad. Yeah, it's pretty cold sounding, but you can get some wild sounds out of it. One of the reasons I bought it was because of the stereo ins/outs. I'd never use it as my only flanger, but it's nice as a second flanger.

(I bet Tom'd build a purple Flangerine for anyone who asked.)

I love flange. Flange is awesome, but I'm on the fence regarding flanger pedals.

When money allows, I am REALLY tempted to upgrade to a Flangerine with graphics ala 'A Forest' since that is what I use flangers for, anyways.
