Bebop/Hard Bop Suggestions

Hey dudes, so I finally started really enjoying jazz! I don't understand jazz lingo too much and reading a jazz review is like another language to me, but hey, I have to start somewhere.
I've listened to Cannonball Adderley, Mingus, Art Blakey (Mostly Blakey). Just those three so far really. My problem is that I enjoy listening to most of it while studying and driving, etc but nothing has captured me as much as Blakey and the Jazz Messengers "Moanin'", the song itself. I'm super new to jazz so excuse me not knowing anything about it. I really like how it starts and ends with everyone playing and the solos are in the middle. I think that catchy hook (forgive me, that really doesn't sound like a jazz thing, but I need something I think is catchy to really get me at first, then I get into the rest (For example, Boris' "Pink" leading me to their entire discography).
I haven't really found too much of that sort of thing. Like a composed section of everyone playing that is enjoyable and catchy for the novice listener. Like I said I enjoy everything i've listened to, but "Moanin" is what I hum walking home.
Any suggestions of anything is appreciated! I know there are oodles of jazz lovers on ILF so thought I'd ask everyone. I apologize again for not really "understanding" as much about jazz as I probably should at 21.
Here's a youtube video if it's been awhile or you're having trouble getting into jazz, this track really helped me because I could recognize things I hear in other genres I enjoy.

I love this sort of music!
You'll get heaps of rad suggestions but here are a couple:
Thelonius Monk - Monk's Dream

Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lWE65FVb4A
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
- link below is only one song

Dizzy et al - Sonny Side Up
- link to playlist

Max Roach - At Basin Street

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8lTZ7lQayk
Max Roach is cool because his stuff gets increasingly political and whacked out. It's awesome.
Jazz at Massey Hall is a lot of fun

Elvin Jones - Dear John C.
Can't find it on youtube. If you have Spotify here is the link (it's packaged together with Illuminate! which is also rad, but Dear John C. is radder).

Please don't call Max Roach "whacked out".

If you're comparing it to Moanin' his (Roach's) later stuff does go in a bunch of non traditional directions. We Insist! is fucking awesome (maybe my favourite), but a different kettle of fish to his older work. And I'm not saying he was whacked out - just the music

Just joking. I know what you're saying. His duets with Archie Shepp are great. Not Hard Bop though.
I've got some suggestions for Helter (not strictly Hard Bop either), but I'm gonna play some guitar first.

I was going to jam a bit before hitting the hay, but now I'm all chilled listening to that Charlie Mariano album. Ungh - so good!

Hey thanks goroth! I'm off to the library so i'll listen to all these! Oh wait, they're albums, i'll sample all of them!
I look forward to it, Chank
Edit* Also I just remembered the other jazzy thing that pops into my head at random, though im not sure if it counts, but Zappa's "King Kong" is one of my favorite brass instrument riff things (they are totally not called riffs)

Chanks is a musical encyclopaedia, so I'm looking forward to his suggestions. I only ever really listen to albums so I just linked to them. Didn't even think about individual tunes. If you have spotify make a playlist and then put it on random. Good fun!

That's called a "head". It's a pretty common song format in Bop/Hard Bop.
Some stuff I've been listening to lately:
Maybe my favorite cover of "Moanin'":

You got some Nat Adderley:

Wes Montgomery on the Bass VI:

Some rarely heard Mingus:

(Not remotely Bop, but awesome.) I think you'll dig:

Are you interested in organ jazz at all? There's tons of great examples of that. Let us know what you're liking and we can give more suggestions.

I've gotten into Miles Davis a lot recently, there is SO MUCH Miles Davis and a lot of it is good.
Not sure what qualifies Bebop and Hard Bob but check out Birth of the Cool and Kind of Blue,
From there I got into his more experimental Electric and Bitches' Brew and Jack Johnson and John McLaughlin sessions etc
oh snap you mentioned Art Blakey too, I heard this recently and fell in love, it makes me see like 50s cartoons about gangsters in my head

Now Davy Graham is something I do know about! That is how I stumbled upon my new Jazz interest actually! I always liked the jazz influences Davy Graham (and others) has and even when would incorporate brass instruments into his stuff, especially Electric Chair. If you can find the Folk, Blues, and Beyond on Music on Vinyl, it's a really great pressing and can be had for a reasonable price.
Thanks again for the recs, i'm adding everything to the playlist.

Yeah, I love Davy Graham. Some of the jazzy Fahey stuff is really nice too.
You're welcome. Please, let us know in what direction you want your listening to take. We will provide more suggestions. goroth has made some good ones.

I listened around some of Goroth's suggestions so far and really liked the Herbie Hancock song "Maiden Voyage and the Clifford Brown and Max Roach "Step Lightly". I wasn't super keen on Elvin Jones, he's a little to wild (probably in reality super disciplined and a legend) for my brain to keep up with.
I went over to Herbie Hancock's spotify and really liked "Cantaloupe Island". Just the song so far, but I added it to the playlist as well.
