Enclosures + LCDs mounting?

I've been working on a few projects with LCDs. I can hopefully mill out a slot easily enough but I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on putting glass/clear plastic over the hole to keep dust out and protect the LCD. Anyone had any experience/ seen any pedals which have a simple way of doing this?

For the hollow earth did you use an epoxy? It looks super neat whatever you did.
I kind of want to avoid epoxy, it just seems a bit messy but it might not be as bad as I thought. I was going to try putting clear plastic between the lcd and enclosure and then lasercut a piece of rubber which fits around the lcd to hold the plastic in place. The problem is I just can't get rubber cut thick enough. I don't like the idea of screws or bolts, and glues by themselves aren't strong enough.

What about making a pocket on the front/outside of the case of a larger size than the hole you need to view the lcd, inside the pocket cut all the way through with the hole you want to expose the lcd. Make the plastic lens the size of the larger pocket that isn't cut all the way through. Then just use some glue in the excess area of the pocket to secure it, puttin gthe plastic on from teh outside, but it willbe flush with the front of the case. Gravity + glue = pretty good. If you prefer screws etc to hold it on, just put either a pot or an led bezel/switch or something panel mount etc in the excess pocket area as well to essentially clamp the plastic into the pocket. you cant push the lense in this way either, unless you were breaking it.

It would probably depend most on the LCD and whether it has mounting tabs. I'm guessing you're looking at something like this where it's just the liquid crystal display on a PCB with mounting holes:
Or similar.. it doesn't have to be exactly like this.9
(Tangent: Adafruit has a really neat 8x8 display with LEDs:

For non-rugged use, I've typically seen a rectangle cut for the LCD (and it's little plastic bezel here) to stick through. It sounds like you want to put some plastic over it and seal it to keep out beer, sweat, and other stuff that might befall a pedal board. For that, I checked out what an old acquaintance did for the LCD window on their outdoor security door code system.
It looks like he used a piece of clear plastic (lexan, etc) bigger than the hole on the inside, and then made sure to caulk around the seams on the outside:

I was thinking it'd be neat to do something similar with the square Adafruit LED matrix above and a round hole cut by a hole-cutter on an enclosure.
