you aren't really making a whole lot of sense dude. I take a fuck of a lot of drugs all the time, but I still try to make some sense.

If you think about it a normal 3 piece band is like a watered down orchestra

When I'm using a pedal for the first time, I normally start with the knobs at midnight and go from there.

Me too.
Wonder how many pedal makers design their pedals so that they sound at their awesomest when everything is at noon? According to how I set my knobs, few to none, but it'd be pretty sensible...

Anyone notice settings are generally the best when all the way up?

Personally, I like my settings to be set. I find that when my settings are not set, they are completely inefficient.

I think the only knobs I start at noon would be tone knobs. I usually have some sort of idea of what a pedal will do and set it based on how I initially think about achieving that then explore from there.
I will say that I hate when people demo pedals and start with everything at noon. It gives me the impression that they dont know what they're doing

I know the 141g's and the Cosmichorus's manual both have their standard settings with all the relevant knobs at noon, so it's not unheard of.

Hmm. My own stereotyping then. Seen one to many a bad demo.
