I found this amp on CR today. Called the guy up and its a 50 watt tube amp, but he said the tubes need replaced. I can get one on ebay for $349 shipped. He is asking $275 bc he traded things to get it around that value. He said he woul# be willing to go lower to sell the thing. If it needs new tubes what should I buy for?

The real question is "what is it worth to you?"
If its worth it to you at $250, then it is a deal. Why are you interested in it? Are you familiar with the amp?
Do you like the sound or is it cheap and availible?
If you just want cheap and loud you should be able to get Bugeras cheaper

Vintage Club 50 you mean? Head or one of the combos? I had the amp head, kinda Fendery cleans, wanna be Marshall on the OD channel. Not great at either, and was always really noisy / hissy, even amp tech couldn't get it to stop with that. Tried a 15" combo and it was the same. I'd get one of the Blackheart 100 watt heads for a cheap 100 watter way before it. Better at everything and much newer / higher quality build by the same overall company. A Blue Voodoo would be in that range of cheap and a better pedal platform too. Esp if it needs new tubes and maybe more work. Not going to be worth fixing a VC50 if you pay @$200 for it. I bought the one I had needing repair for like $50 from a shop without a repair tech.

Well I really want a peavy valve king or classic 30. I was probably gonna offer him less than $100 for it.

Probably better off saving yer $$ until you can afford one - then you know you have a working amp instead of a possible crap-amp project. Snag a working Valve Jr and you can flip it for what you bought it for in the meantime? If you're looking in the $100 tube amp range, at least.

Wait and get what you really want and what sounds good to your ears. You will never be satisfied settling for something because it's cheap.

If it needs new tubes, you don't know if there's something wrong with the amp.
And glass isn't cheap.
It also won't age like wine value wise. Will be lucky to keep up with deflation.
