bass rig for under a g

greetings senseis. I'm looking to get my partner a bass so we can start dooming out unlike the partridge family(aka we want to start a Japanther tribute band). I pretty much have the bass figured out; going to aim for a VM jag bass since they're so cheap. I see cheap acoustic bass amps all the time around here too, thinking about getting her one of those or a peavey mark. or fuck everything and find proper tubes. if there's a 100w bass head that can be obtained for close to $500, please let me know what to look out for!! (I was planning on the traynor yba-3 in b/s/t but it's gone  ) as far as cabs go, I know absolutely shit about bass cabs, so I'm open to all feasible recommendations. any and all input appreciated!

so..what's the best bang for the buck with this budget?

If portability isnt of the utmost importance, and you have the ability to be loud, grab one of those old Peavey 215 cabs. Heavy as fuck but they sound great And can be had for around $200.

If you can find a V4 or an older GK 800RB for 500 (the GK should be easy) I'd do that and an 810 or 215 of your choosing

Backing the Peavey 215. I use one currently and it sounds super good no matter how many stupid effects I throw in. I use an old 90s GB 400RB with it, and it's super good. Can't understate the weight though, I think they weigh close to 90lbs. Not fun to carry up and down my apartment stairs.

I have the matching 2x15 too if he wants to spend all of it. :p

I'll get a shipping quote, but I seem to remember it was ~$100 to NOLA? for what that's worth

check out this Carvin combo. Sounds great for a cheap price and includes a limiter.

try get your hands on a couple of secondhand combos and daisy chain them. Modular doom rig. You made the right choice on the Squier VM Jag. I just got one and it is great build and sound at an awesome price. The bass boost circuit will give some awesome doom bottom end. :thumb:

I definitely suggest used GK stuff. Built like a tank, cheap-ish of you find a good one, and power available. Used 700RB-II's go for 3-400. As far as cabs, they play well with any. They can take a lot of dirt as well.

Watch CL with a broad view and something appropriate and under budget will come up. Around me, Hartke and Peavey tend to be cheap. I tipped a coworker to a Peavey Combo 300 with 15" Black Widow for $100. (I'm hoping for the flip there.)

for cabs I actually really like my avatar 2x12 neo cab. it has just the standard drivers that come with it, but I think it sounds really great. I've had it for years now, and I really don't think i'll ever replace it haha.
god dammit why do I say really so much
