The unpleasant surprise has some abusive/abused sounds in it. The extreme compression sounds like a tiny broken amp to me.

I have a volume "pedal" (really just a 500k pot in a box) after it now. I love the way dirt into Blowing Up sounds but don't always want the miniature panic attack that comes with the volume.
It's a deconstruction of what it means to be a boost.
