3x12" Custom Cab Idea

Mentioned this in another thread, but today I sent a drawing of my 3x12" cabinet idea to Ben Verellen to see if everything is feasible. Here's a summary:
- Vertical 3x12"
- V cutouts over the speakers* (with orientation of the Vs varying, see Nite King combo:
http://www.verellenamplifiers.com/verel ... 613933.jpg)
- Chrome corners to match my head
- Leather strap on top and sides (x3 total); not the standard cutout amplifier handles for the sides
- Removable casters
- Verellen brand/burn on top left of front baffle
- Red mahogany finish
- Removable back panel for both sealed and open back configurations
- I'm still considering my grille cloth options (any suggestions?)
And here's a reminder of what my head looks like:
Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about this idea. The drawing looks even better than what I envisioned in my mind. *My only concern was that the cutouts might not make sense if there's a ton of speaker throw, but I may just be paranoid.

I love the look of the Nite King. Is it a 15" and a 12" or 12" and a 10" -- it's hard to tell from the picture.
The v-cut outs are definitely cool as hell. I'm sure it'll turn out sweet.

Impedance on a 3x12 would be a little weird.

... but why not have 4 speakers?

Good question.
Didn't Sunn have a three 12" speaker cab?

I feel like Emperor/one of those type of companies made a 3x15" for someone metally.

Creative wiring of two different speakers can be used which could be good and bad. If it's being built, impedance shouldn't be a problem (Verellen builds nice stuff). If the reason for 3 instead of 4 speakers is to match the width of the head, why not do the speakers like the beta lead (though Q could be difficult for closed back)? Then make the face plate with the "v"'s more square or oval. If the reason is for weight and transport, more power to you.

If weight is the concern, then why not just do an offset or diagonal OS 2x12. They look bad ass, sound huge as 2x12's go, and no impedance matching wiring dickery needed.

I don't mean to poop on the idea, but I would also recommend either a 2x12 or 4x12.... Buuuuut I also encourage custom work so go at it. Just double up on wattage for the third speaker that has the different impedance. So something like two 16 ohm 50 watt speakers and a 100w 8 ohm speaker. I'd personally get them wired to where each set has its own input, but one signal splitting to three wouldn't be too bad. Better yet, I would say a 2x12/1x15 would be rad if you're already going custom. At least you get a little variety that way. I was playing a 2x12 above a 1x15 for a while and it sounded awesome! But, my opinion doesn't matter. Get what makes you happy!

I think the Nite King is 1x15", 1x12". And yeah, I'm stoked about the V cutouts. I think it'll look totally unique / art deco, and correspond to my aesthetic generally.

From what I've read it sounds like my amplifier shouldn't give me any issues with 3x 16 ohm speakers wired for 5.3 ohms. I have a jack for 4 ohms, so that should be close enough, no? You make a good point that I'll have to talk with Ben about, in any case. If my idea is hair brained I'm sure he'll tell me.

There is a weight and portability dimension for me. Plus I just like to be different.

I have an oversized diagonal 2x12" Emperor cab that matches the head pretty closely, but I picked that up
third hand in Chicago on Craigslist, and want something to my specs (might as well before life gets in the way, right?). I feel like if I go that route I'm basically buying what I already have, and at that point I might as well just get a 4x12".

Your idea had occurred to me, and it's a really good one. I used to have a Classic 50 and the 115E extension cabinet, and I loved the sound of guitar through the 15". Going that route seems like it would make perfect sense to power the 2x12"s and 1x15" separately.

Here's my mockup and poor attempt at perspective.
