I went to a Guitar Center today and they had some nice shit

I hate to be all TalkBass-y here, but I took a trip to a Guitar Center in Dallas today after an interview, since it was LITERALLY RIGHT THERE. I've been to one in the area before, but this was not the same one.
Holy shit did they have nice stuff. Exhibit A:
I don't care what you think. That bass is one tasty piece of bitch.
And for everyone else on this forum:
I forgot to take a picture of the flower strat they had, and the triple P90 white non-reverse Firebird that also had a trem on it and was $8,000 and was so beautiful I could cry (now THAT was a tasty piece of bitch). But I DID take a picture of...
Now, I play bass, so these weren't really useful to me, but having never seen one before and to walk up to THREE OF THEM was just insane. And the guys working there were cool and handed one to me, which I held then promptly put back down. I didn't want to break the precious glass-like mids or whatever the fuck TGP masturbates over with these things. Hey, I should post this picture over there just to be nice.
Anyway, cool shit all around. They also had those Ibanezes with the Korg Mini Kaoss pad built in that was sorta cool to dick around with but not really useable, and some Moogs that I couldn't get to work (i.e. they weren't plugged in and I just didn't want to mess with cords). Not a lot of used amps that caught my attention, and really no used bass amps. But it was still a fun trip. I think they thought I had more money than I do because I was wearing nice clothes (again, interview). Boy were they wrong.

Guitar Center isn't too bad, just depends on the location. My local one gets the best used gear, gotten a lot of modded/custom shit from them. And the used amps are always cool.

They also had a guitar that Jack White would white his jack all over if he saw it

mine is some garbage now…a few years back they had some guys who kept decent synths in stock, kept some good used inventory in. Now it just feels like a big box store with Strats, Teles, and Epi's...

They stock what's available and what sells.
The latter being a big thing these days - there's no guesswork on the backend any more. They have literally years of data to peer at on demand.

They must not be too great at it, then: they've had two of those klons for like 2 years.

Nobody in their right mind is spending $2k or more on an overdrive/boost pedal that is available for demo in the store.
I'm convinced the ones that do sell for high prices go overseas to private collections and trustfund type bedroom rigs.

Are Klons really that expensive new? Or is that over inflated?

I was under the impression klons cant be had new anymore (at least not the original styling), hence the high prices and demand?

Oh yes, I forgot about the bass ones that were made. But still, I didn't care enough to want to plug one in.

I would have offered them a mason jar full of semen.

I don't blame you. I wouldn't've wanted to play a Centaur in GC either.

Do you always carry a mason jar full of semen around with you or would you've had to produce it on demand?

Either way, I'm impressed.

Those are priced for tax return impulse buys, can guarantee it.
"I've always wanted one" or "My guitar player raves about these, here's a gift for his birthday" stuff.
It's not just somebody walking in and playing it and falling in love, but it does happen.
Crazy occurs at all price points - I'm just as aghast at people paying $500 for Hondos or Hagstroms or Sunn stuff as the $2k Klon. Value is always relative.
