YOU ARE.
really! source the parts... it's not really complicated! i built my telecaster (double bound!) for less than $1000 and it's got real nice parts on it (bare knuckle pickups even!). a telemaster isn't much different.

It shouldn't be that hard. I've built a lot of teles and a few others for under $200, others for around $100. The only difference really is the body, and you can use a GFS, Rondo, or spend more on something someone has on Ebay new or Warmoth (nah).

There's a company on ebay that does great stuff and they do Jazzcasters/Telemasters. I always forget their name but they are under $1k and you get to customize everything from neck feel to color and finish. MJT guitars I think is their name. Solid reviews online too.

I've built a few now, depending on what exactly you want I might be able to build one for you, and for definitely under 1K.

Here's one you could get for a decent price and rework to your standards

I've been researching for way too long on a telemaster build for years. Until Squier makes them, it's best to diy.
Saylor guitars on eBay does good stuff and is inexpensive. You'd finish yourself, which would be very fun. He does custom jobs if you email him.

That control plate is crooked and it's really bothering me.

If I was forced to actually buy a new telecaster vs a partscaster… I'd get an older fernandes I guess… then I'd replace everything... so it would be a proper partscaster
