2 amps into 1 cab

Can this be done or will I blow something up? What do I need to know to accomplish this?

I have a Verellen Meatsmoke amp and cab. I would like to add another amp to play simultaneously. Can I run some sort of splitter cable into the the speaker cab that is fed by 2 different amps at the same time? Assuming I keep everything under the 300w that the speaker cab is designed to handle, will this be ok or will shit blow up? I am not smart with electronics and shit, so if there are different Ohms and shit like that there that I need to be concerned about, please let me know. My cab is 8 ohms.

I also understand this may not be the "best" sounding solution to playing 2 amps, but I don't care about sounding good.

Thanks

Nora

Don't do it.
Not unless you re wire the cab to stereo and have each amp pushing dedicated, separate speakers. You could kill your amp.

Also tube amps need correct impedence. So if you re wire make sure the load matches up between amp and cab.

Yeah see I thought there would be issues that are way over my head. Thanks for the pro-tips. I guess I'll figure something else out like buy another cab or whatever if I end up buying a 2nd amp.

Thanks.

two amps into one cab usually sounds like shit anyway, so yeah, buy a second cab. i know you said you don't care about sounding good, but really, it often sounds way worse than one amp. no one wants that.

Well I was considering buying some cheap piece of junk dime store amp to see what horrible sounds I make by blending it with my good amp. So, I kinda did want it to sound worse than my current setup.

Poke holes in the speakers of your new cab.

That's a good idea. I will do that when I get home from work. I can post a demo if anyone is interested.

Even more important: tube amps need to have a power load aka speaker or a resistor once The standby Switch is flipped to on. Else The output Transformator is stressed and may die.
Basicly you need an amp Switcher with dummy load. Using two amps with a single input at a cab simultaneously won't work to my knowledge without the risk of harming Sth.
If The cab has multiple speakers just rewire it.

It's not to hard to rewire your cab and hook up an extra input so you can hook up each amp to one pair of speakers. If you don't know what you're doing and don't want to fuck up your amps by accidentally messing with the wrong impedance or something, get someone to help you out :)

As others have said though, If you want to do two nice amps justice, you definatelly want to go with seperate cabs. For a decent stereo type of vibe that'll sound big and all over the place, you'll want a bit of distance between both sources anyway.

I have a JCM 1960 900 Lead, it'd be possible to do this with that, right? has a mono/stereo switch on the back. mono can either be 4ohm, 16 or 8, but when stereo both inputs are 8 ohms. been wanting to try but the dude I got it from said stereo meant you could add a slave. thinking he was wrong :poke:

I used to run two heads into the top/bottom of an 8x10, it was tall as fuck and sounded pretty cool. I've never had good luck trying similar things with guitars/Marshall cabs, though, for whatever reason :idk:

Thank you team members for your input. There is a local guitar/amp tech that could do all this rewire stuff if I wanted, but that is way more effort than I wanted to put into it. When I am slow at work I start thinking about stupid things I can do to my guitar tone, like I am sure many of you do also. So, this was just a silly idea that popped into my head. I didn't want to put that much effort into it. Maybe someday, who knows?

Chank - I haven't forgotten about the demo. Probably this weekend, but possibly tomorrow night depending on what time I get home from the gf's house.
