Opinions on the EHX Pulsar? Other cheap choppy trems?

It's cheap, it chops, and it does phasey stuff too. What are the downsides? I read online about a volume drop.
Any other sub $100 trems out there that bring the chop?
(side note: I really wish the Vitruvian Mod could do trem too)

If you could find a used EQD Hummingbird, you'll have all the chop you need. I think there was one in the b/s/t recently. Don't know if it ever sold.

Pulsar is quite useable esp for the price. All trems will have a perceived volume drop because your ears will want to average out the volume and its going from on and off the only way around this is units that have a boost with it.

My buddy & bandmate Decibill used a Pulsar for many many years and dug it a lot, but recently switched over to a Copilot Polypus, and it's pretty damned awesome.

Over the years I've used a TR-7,Hummingbird,Philo King,Tremolessence,Slicer,Polypus,Semaphore,Randy's Revenge,Ring Thing,Sonar,M9,and probly some others for trem. Polypus didn't quite have the chop I was looking for. Sonar and Randy did but they left for other reasons. I just haven't found the perfect trem yet.
Right now I'm looking to downsize from a Modfactor, which has nearly everything I want plus a hundred things I don't. I got it for so cheap though maybe I should just be happy with what I've got.

+1 - No trems actually have a volume drop. It's your ears playing tricks on you. The "fix" is to boost the signal above unity.

I've got a few suggestions for you, none of which are especially inexpensive.
Not sure if the Fredric West Germany Vintage Tremolo is choppy enough for you, but I've wanted one of those for a while.
I've also had longstanding GAS for a Magnetic Effects Electrochop.
Basic Audio Throbby is amazing sounding. Really cuts through dirt.
Maybe you could find one of those used for slightly more than cheap?
You always get somebody to build you a clone of the Vox Repeat Percussion. (I've got a Creepy Fingers built version. Not cheap, totally worth it.)
Oh, also, maybe the Moog MF Trem? I'd like to try one of those. (Still, not really cheap.)
But, yeah, Pulsar's probably fine too.

I'd add the Tremolessence and the Tremulust to the list, and the Idiotbox Mad Dr Stutter, maybe also the Boss TR-2.

I got a Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo as a gift a couple years ago. It's got some serious chop with it's on hard mode. You can get it nice and subtle with the depth set lower in soft mode.

The EHX Wiggler is great, but physically big. And as Jrmy said, I currently run the Polypus and love it.

Always loved my Danelectro Tuna Melt. Hard or soft choppy. Very cool in QTron + fx loop but yeah its simple and small. I very much want the Tremeloesscence (sp) but Tuna Melt has hung in there many years now.

The Polypus is probably the cheapest ilovefuzz approved option but it's still double the price of the Pulsar. The Pulsar is a great choice if you want a good, relatively versatile tremolo at an inexpensive price. It's probably only worth spending more if you want additional features. I have a Zvex Sonar at the moment, which I like, but if I had the space I would maybe get a Minifooger tremolo as I like the idea of having expression pedal control of the speed.

Thanks for the recs bros, but the more I use the Modfactor the more it's growing on me so I'm going to hang for now.
