Yes saw them in '07 with the locust touring on Arms and Hard Ep. They rule. I think they are one of the most original and amazing bands. Stoked on the album finally coming out. They have been touring on those songs for so long. That's how they do it though.

Hard Ep came out a year after I saw them.

I think my brain would explode if I saw them play with the locust...but yeah i've been waiting for this one to come out for a long time.

It was great. Sleeping people and Yip Yip played as well. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

i am optimistic about this record. i loved the early stuff (up to & including ARMS) but they've kinda drifted off into noise jam territory on their newer releases.

the preview track is decent - i wish the drums were louder, and some of the effects usage sounds a little corny to me, but overall i like it.

I think that's part of it. It took me awhile to get use to, but the guitarist runs through a mixer and it has that direct sound. Those guys are so smart about music, I feel like everything is intentional.

Did you not like New Slaves or Hard Ep?

I haven't really given the Hard EP enough listens, but I really enjoy New Slaves.

this conversation between the guitarist and the sax player is well worth a read and shows how well informed they are.

the hard ep is okay, but i saw them play it live twice before it came out, and the recording just seems puny in comparison to how it was in person.

new slaves has two good jams - acres of skin & the title track - along with like an hour of pointless fucking around. to me, anyway.

my old band played with them a few times and i really like those guys (the only guy still in the band from those days is Sam, the sax guy).

listening to the new one for the first time (i got my download code today - vinyl hasn't shipped yet).

it's very soundtrack-y. it bears very little resemblance to the early hyper composed style of the older line-ups (which, frankly, i preferred by a large margin).
an enjoyable listen, though. i kinda wish it wasn't called Zs anymore, though...it's a completely different concept than what it used to be.

The only thing I know about Zs I learned from Achtane and Bigchief BC

I listened to Xe and now agree that the drums aren't doing it. I don't like the quality of the recording. Sounds too lofi after hearing the thorough postproduction on New Slaves.

I'm excited to hear the rest of the album regardless though.
