I accidentally bought a big-box mini q tron and Russian bassballs and i have no idea how to use them. Have any of you found any ways to use stuff like that without sounding like funk or a 70's porno?

If you don't play funky rift, it won't sound funk. :idk:

Feed it into a distortion, it'll sound like a really crazy synth effect. Play volume swells into them and your swells will sound super weird and cool. Throw it into a true bypass loop with a reverb or delay with the Mix to 100% dry and you'll get some really interesting textural stuff going.

Dude, funk and 70's porno rule.

Otherwise, try placing it creatively wrong for great signature sounds for songs. For example after fuzz and delay for rottengaze long notes. Or place it in feedback loop for pedalcore bat-shit crazy fun. :animal:

Also, ring modulation and wah and envelope filter makes fantastic nonsensical backing sounds if You're at all into that.

Put it behind a brickwalled fuzz and it's suddenly reponds really well to dynamics, I do this with my Meatball. :D

I use my AW7 both in front and after distortion. On bass

a) analog synth sound - octaver -> Fingerprint fuzz -> AW7 - self explanatory. Works great for volume swells (microsynthish), because the fuzz drives the filter hard and makes it controlable. I basically do use it as a microsynth emulation (but i can control which part of the sound is active at any given moment, so sort of modular...) inspired by Juan Alderete and such cats

b) before distortion - adds cool texture. Can accentuate the attact or make it sound really obnoxious - all depends on the settings. to me, the Bassballs are pretty obnoxious sounding, drive them into a DS-1 for some fucked up noise rock textures :idk:

just generally though - if you don'T play funk, it won't sound funk, as already mentioned. Make underwater sounds. One thing I really enjoy is playing my jazzmaster behind the bridge, especially the low notes, boost it and run it through the AW7 - it sounds like some underground beast waking up.

Turn the bassballs distortion switch on into some fuzz and annoy the shit out of everyone around you.

Atomic Bitchwax basstone is the Bassballs.
