Advice on trade, MIG100 and Avatar412 for 67 Fender Twin Rev

He wants $400 + my avatar cab, it has 'cheap' speakers + the sovtek for a 1967 fender twin reverb with no speakers

I see prices on ebay for a 67 reverb from like $1100 up to $2500? on guitar center used I see them around $2000? What is this thing actually worth? and how would I check if its a legit 67 and not a modded silver face or something?

this is it inside of a head shell

im getting it in the original shell

Is the money there? I don't know enough about vintage fender stuff? Am I just better off trading my head for a silver face?

If that's the sound you want, and its serviced and recapped, I'd do it.

Cab is valued around 3/4, head at 8 or so?, 1500-1600 dollars seems pretty reasonable for a blackface with speakers, even if it isn't pre-cbs. Most of the cost in these amps is reflective of its condition and how stock it is; this one looks relatively clean externally.

I'd do some negotiating that involves you getting speakers; whether he takes some cash off or you keep the ones from your avatar-otherwise it seems like a fair deal.

However, if you have the opportunity to just trade your head for a silverface, id definitely do that, especially if its an early 70s (non master volume). Those can easily be modded to bf specs if you want.

Yeah. I think I'm only going to do this if I can take 2 speakers from my avatar, or if I can do it without the $400. Hopefully I don't regret it if it doesn't work out.

What about smaller builders or fender twin clones? I don't really know much about this area. Any suggestions?

And what about an RI? I feel like having a silverface is still better than an RI, but maybe im just hung up on having vintage/lesser known stuff?

A twin clone is probably going to cost a lot more than an actual twin- and I think they tend to look pretty ugly.
Some say that with new tubes and speakers, the ri's are on point to their vintage counterparts. I, however, strongly disagree.
With a silverface, you have point to point wiring, the ris are on a printed circuit board, so if something fries, the whole thing is probably ruined, unlike the more easily fixable ptp wiring.
I have played both a 65 and a 65ri and will tell you that they are worlds apart sonically. I would get a silverface over any ri without question.

I have patiently waited for a Silverface TR at a decent price. A few months later I found a '68 in 9/10 condition for $600.
I know is no BF, so no high resale value, but those late 60s are supposed to be BF circuits with a SF faceplate.

With all the "convert your SF to BF specs" trend I suppose most of old SF have been somehow BFed anyway.

He's throwing in a 212 peavy cab now.

So 67 twin reverb in a head enclosure
The origin combo enclosure (empty)
Peavy 212

I'm gonna do the trade. I'll run it as a head and cab until I get money for nice speakers / pro install/ service

i would want the original enclosure for resale and whatnot, but for practical use i would way rather have that amp as a head, so you've done good there. as far as your trade, i reckon you've done alright. the early silver faces are a great value cause they sound awesome and are much cheaper. the very early ones are the exact same amp. later ones can easily be modded to black face specs. you'll do well on resale though. particularly if you can get the right speakers in the original cab.

i think the reissues actually sound pretty good. i think the biggest difference is that they use a solid state rectifier, so i think that accounts for most of the differences people hear. i actually like solid state rectifiers for what i play, but it's just a matter of opinion. it is a noticeable difference though. as far as ptp vs pcb, ptp obviously has it's advantages and usually reflects a more careful and personal building process, but i don't think it's a very audible difference, if you know what i mean. all other things being equal, i don't think almost anyone could hear the difference between a pcb amp and a ptp one. the repair issue is quite true, but that being said, i've had a bunch of amps built on pcb's and have played the shit out of them and toured all over the place with them and haven't ever had that be an issue. problems can happen, but in general, a well designed and decently built amp on a pcb is going to be fine. your issues over time will generally be failed components that can be replaced. i currently play on an amp with a pcb that is almost 35 years old and it's running just fine. a twin reverb reissue from 5 years ago or whatever will be fine for quite a while.

The amp in question is a blackface.

I know the versatility of a head is awesome
But I'm so tired of lugging around 2 pieces. Plus I really dig the look of the fender blackface. In going to run the head through the peavy 212 for 2 weeks. Next check I'll get nice speakers. Get it serviced and get speakers installed.

So. I'm dojng the trade sunday. The guy lives 3.5 hours away. I want to request a picture of the circuit so I can make sure it's a 67 black face. How do I do that? I don't want him to waste time driving.

Yooo, I can probably throw you some pictures of the internals. My tech just went through the whole thing and it's beautiful. I'll look around, I thought I took some already. I'd rather not pull the fucker out of the headshell again.

Also, Hi everyone. lol
