probably LT3430, a buck regulator. its used to step downa DC voltage usually. Like linear regulator (ie 7805) but better in some sense. Large pads used as heatsinks and large diode/cap nearby also indicate its likely a power part of some kind. If you have a few beers the weird graphic in the upper left becomes the letters "LT" for Linear Technologies.

maybe cheaper elsewhere but here it is from digikey

Any idea why someone would charge a thousand bucks to replace that chip? It's not mine but it's for a laser machine just like mine. Seems insane.

Because it's for an expensive ass laser machine and is a specialty thing. They don't expect you to know anything. I had a tv start to go out a couple years ago and they wanted $250 plus shipping to look at it...I opened it, replaced two $0.50 electros and never looked back.

Yea it's fucking bullshit. The guy that had it done was out of warranty too and they wanted the old board back before they would give him a new one. Talk about a mark up. I don't really want to say how much these machines cost, but for the price you pay, you should not have issues like this ever. Especially after 3 years of use.

I think that is asking a bit much considering you can't always know how big a spike the power company will send down to your building and you are expecting a 0% failure rate from a company that does not own or control Linear Technology.

Well yea true. BUT I don't think they ought to charge so much for such a minor part. It's just silly and it's actually got me thinking of selling my laser. I can't be out thousand bucks if my mother board fries for no reason. That would be horrible.

It happens too often too which is scary. I don't know if they are charging that because of research and development or what, it just seems nuts.

And I know things will happen, nothing it fool proof, it's just a scary thought.

I agree $1000 is absolutely ridiculous
