Someone posted on Instagram that they were hanging out with Dennis Lyxzen and mentioned that he was working on vocals for the new Refused album. The post was deleted after all the internet news folks got wind of it. JUICY!
Do we need a new Refused album? Didn't the shape of punk already come and go? Can they make another classic or is it gonna flop?
I know a lot of folks don't care for them, but The Shape of Punk to Come was a big deal for me in high school. I'm not sure they are going to make another album so ahead of its time though. Either way, I'm anticipating hearing some new Refused.
DISCUSS!

I agree. Enough.
I used to date a girl who referred to this record as "the hardcore record for people who don't listen to hardcore".
I can't even recall what it sounds like, but I recall not liking it.
In other news, Black Flag are touring. Get the gun, it's time to put the final bullet in punks bloated corpse.....

I really liked it, and songs to fan the flames, when they came out. I was a teenager then, I'm nearly 33 now and it just seems like all dick, no balls to me.
Which is funny because the bands they ripped off or 'paid homage' to still REALLY hold up. Oh well. Nostalgia or whatever aside I just can't see dudes who've really had nothing to do with the actual DIY hardcore they came from that gave that record it's spark for the last 15 years putting out anything that will have anything like the impact or sincerity (however misguided or whatever).
Unless it's a total mindfuck like that Text record, that would be awesome.

also I thought Off! was hardcore for people who don't like hardcore? Or are they hardcore for people who dropped out of hardcore ten years ago and say stuff like 'basement shows? They still do those?'

Felix Havoc is like the absolute definition of a punk lifer, I don't even know the dude and think he rules so fucking hard.

I agree. He is the fucking best. I drove to Minneapolis for the Thrashfest in 2000 and met him briefly, absolutely the nicest dude ever.
I wish I still had some of the shirts he used to make. I had the Mob 47 "Nuclear Attack!!" shirt and the Confuse one and they were my absolute favourite shirts ever.

I'm awaiting this new album with ambivalence. It's weird to be introduced to The Refused in senior year high school when the band broke up before I turned 10. I didn't know they were hardcore, I never made the connection. And it's been over 16 years so I not expecting a brand new SoPTC, I expect to be surprised.

I hope it's not going to suck ...
I missed out unfortunately on the last tour they did, So I hope this leads to more live playing, which would make me very very happy

Yeah, I don't really give a fuck about their "punk ethos", just the fact that they started playing shows again when they said they never would says more about that than I could.
They just made (hopefully make) awesome music.

Eh, just total time and place album for me. I said this in another thread about refused but if everything that I loved when I was 17 was still relevant to me now I'm 33 is be a bit worried. I love the bands they ripped off still but that record just sounds like 1999 to me, and I'd rather leave it there, if that makes sense.
