I'm a pussy and I need help (Power Supply thread).

Batteries are better. Fact. Irrefutable fact. The earth is round, evolution is real, and batteries are better.

Unfortunately, there are some builders who make awesome stuff that only runs on direct power, because even though they make amazing things they have some mistaken ideas about the bestest solutions toward pedal power. Their shit is so good, though, that I'm forced to consider something that really, really, blows. I need a power supply.

Assist? I'm not looking at anything beyond nine volts, and I have a couple oddball things that need their own dedicated power, but for powering, say, five or six different boss style adapter pedals, what do I want?

Voodoo Labs PP2+

I know, it's pricey - but you get 8 ISOLATED 9v outputs, with a couple of sag options + each output has a dipswitch incase you have picky pedals. can run daisy chains through 'em too. reliable, can take a beating. won't have to worry about power again unless you have some really crazy stacks going.

if that's too much you can snag the ISO-5; you only get 4 9v, but you also get a 12v and 18v output.

there's some other cool power supplies out there, but voodoo labs are the only ones I know of that have each output isolated.

Cioks, all the way.

I've not tried their newer smaller units, only the Pussy Power and the DC-10 (both of which reside under my board) and they are fucking awesome. Super clean power. You'd be hard pressed to hear the residual ripple in the power supplied. Good current capacity. Good isolation. But those new linkable ones look rad.

Batteries are antiquated, die, and kill Polar Bears though :p

Maybe you don't really want to give up the battery game?

Those things are also true of Orcas. Orcas are awesome. Like Batteries.

Just like orcas, batteries won't power half the cool shit on my pedal board.

Which is exactly how we ended up at this thread, but you can't blame the Orcas for that.

has anyone tried the Mooer micro supply? it's hella cheap and conveniently sized. seems like a glorified daisy chain tho

If I could power my pedals with an orca, I would.

Fuck it, I just want to plug into an orca for those wild oscillations.

Honestly a one spot works fine for me
Will eventually upgrade and I had one die on me but they are cheap and work well, I haven't noticed toooo much noise and I pretty much constantly have 8 pedals chained, a bunch of high current draw digital pedz along with some dirt

Same here. I have gone back and forth with buying a PP2+ for a long time, but when I get zero noise while using a one spot daisy chaining 8 peds (5 high gain dirt / fuzzes, analog delay and trem, and digital reverb), I can't justify the expense. If I were gigging, it might be different where I can't rely on a venue having any sort of reasonable power, but at home... one spot all the way. I've been using the same one for 10 years and never had any problem.

Wait, daisychains through a PP2+? Is that safe? :|
That changes everything...

Does that hold true for going direct as well as going into an amplifier?

I'm a battery guy as the vast majority of my pedals are vintage and only run off batteries...and they tend to Sound best this way. But +1 on the pp2+, it's great or my more modern pedals that only run off power supply. Zero issues until I came across a pedal that needed 500ma current, which is more than the pp2+ outlets output, but apparently you can get an adapter that connects two outputs thus doubling the current. also my Industrialectric pedals don't work with the pp2+ so I picked up a one spot and it's been great for using with these pedals, even the higher current pedal works with the one spot.
