I'm changing my bass strings for the first time since 2001

I have this junker P-bass I've been using for home recording and some one off gigs and the other day I had to think about when the last time I changed the strings was, and I realized it was in high school, in 2001. God damn!

So I ordered a pair for that and for my fretless. I got round wounds for both; the fretless has flats on it right now which I had put on to make it sound more like an upright, but I heard that you can get more of that mwahhhh fretless envelope with rounds so I'm going to check it out.

It's incredibly slow at work and I'm super fucking bored is why I'm telling you this extremely cool story.

Bass strings are something that I never replace very often either. It's to the point that I can't even remember what gauge is on my Jazz Bass copy, something just REALLY has to go wrong with them for me to replace them. I think in the 7-8 years I've had the bass, I've changed the strings one time, like a year or two ago

I ruin my strings the first show I play with them. I love fresh string tone. But I sweat pure corrosive acid and stretch that low b to hell when I dig in. I'm the only melodic instrument in my band, so the articulation is nice

Phew I thought I was the only one.

Yeah I love fresh strings on regular guitar, but for some reason dulled down bass strings don't really bother me too much.

I'm the opposite. I haven't changed my acoustic strings in years. And my electric in a couple years. maybe if I had one of those Phil jones cabs with millions of tiny speakers and a tweeter. Ha.

What a fantastic story! :D

I change my bass strings approximately once in a year, depending how much I have played and recorded with it. I use D'Addario Pro Steel strings which have the brightest sound in the D'Addario product lineup. They still sound good after several months. But I simply love fresh and bright tone so I replace them when the E string begins to sound dull and non-funky.

I only change bass strings if they break really. If one breaks, I replace the whole set and keep the others as emergency spares.

Otherwise, if I want my strings to sound crisp and new for recording purposes, I just remove em, boil them, stick em back on. Sounds as good as new, and livens them up in terms of playability too.

Boiling doesn't do it for me. Whenever I use the same strings on my bass a second time, all the dents caused by the fretboard irritate me. Not only visually. I can also feel them the whole time and that's really annoying.

You mean dents in the strings, right?

That's not something I've experienced before, I'll have to keep an eye out for that. Maybe I should pay more attention when playing bass

Fucking sellout.

Dead Rotos are best Rotos, but Fresh Rotos are great too.

I actually don't like new bass strings strings. For a couple weeks I'm just trying to get the crispiness out of them.

The only time I've changed them is to put heavier strings on.

Nothing worse than the sound of a fresh SS string, man.
