so i successfully built the byoc tremolo, but i'd like to know why i put those components on the cb the way i did.

can someone recommend a good book that will show me how and why pedals work the way they do? i'd like to eventually create my own effects.

Another good route is to just spend lots of time reading forums and building stuff and mucking through technical junk.

the craig anderton book is old and probably wrong for a lot of reasons but anyway thats the book. you can ignore the mic preamps, and anything that required two 9v batteries or transformers. I have the Nick Collins book and its great but not for guitar pedals. there really is not one book that does it well, sorry. just read the forums daily. this stuff is fresh.

There really isn't a book that explains electronics theory in the context of pedal circuits. It's way too niche, at least for mainstream publishers.

If had tons of free time, I'd do a short Kindle book on the topic, but even my knowledge isn't so advanced that I can break it down and explain it for others to understand.

What you're "supposed" to do it learn general electronics theory and then apply the theory to the problem you're trying to solve (in this case designing a pedal circuit).

Closest thing is probably trawling through geofex.

You should read all the beavis audio articles possible. and then keep coming back to them. I've learned a lot from that site

I thought about doing a youtube channel dedicated to teaching pedals and pushing a book. I think there is a huge gap in the market for someone presenting the relevant info in an easy to understand and real world type format. dave at eevblog is fulltime youtube but it took years of making videos.

everything I see on youtube is either too advanced or too beginner oriented. I do not see people teaching theory in the build videos. I do not see people doing real mods on pedals for real reasons. I do not see people fixing vintage guitar pedals. we need more power point slides in the pedal building videos.
