Reccommend me some bass strings for my Ric copy

I'm wanting to try something new on my Ric. I really like the tension and feel of DR Hibeams but I'd like to try something different. Might do some flats. I like to tap a lot. I also don't really like nickel strings. Most ernie balls I've tried on bass have sucked.

I use Chromes on all three of my Rics :idk: for RW strangs I think DR Neons/coated are my favorite because they are a LITTLE less noisy then most RW strangs :idk:

I used to use rotosound steve harris signature flats on my ric copy. Loved the sound of them.

I run Circle K balanced sets on all of my basses, including my Ric. They don't have quite as much zing as some other round sets, but they still get the upper harmonics that flats don't. And the balanced sets feel great because you have equal tension on all strings.

Equal tension? That sounds cool I'm curious to find out how they do that.

Circle K strings are the shit, they're all I will use as far as rounds go. I wish they were cheaper though.

Circle K has a chart that spells out for you the tension for a string of every gauge at every tuning. You can create your own set based on what tuning you use, or just use one of their pre-selected sets if you use standard tuning.

But basically, most traditional string sets have lower tension on the low strings and higher on the high strings. So a balanced set will have a bigger gauge on the low strings and a smaller gauge on the high strings than most other string sets.

That dude's really good about responding to questions that aren't covered on the site, too.

I've been very happy with Roto Sound drop tune something-or-others. My low B is a .130 but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a regular gauge set for standard tuning.

The Circle K thing is intriguing.

I ordered some DR Flatwounds for my Ric and a balanced 5 string set from Circle K for my jazz :)
