sweet (and cheap) delay / reverb peds for VOCALS?

I'm trying to summon tortured screams from the cavernous depths and demonic growls from the cosmic abyss. What's going to get me there?
I would like something small, cheap, and sturdy that I can bring to gigs in case the PA doesn't have any effects. I don't need tap tempo.
I have an in line transformer, so i think that any pedal should work, but I have no experience in this area so any advice would be much appreciated. Give me an idea of what sorts of headaches I have to look forward to. Does it matter if the pedal is true bypass or buffered?
Thanks!

digiverb reverse can get pretty demonic
shouldn't be any real problems, maybe a little extra buzz

Lexicon reverbs are great for vocals. You could probably score one of their reverb/delay rack units for a decent price and be done. If you want a peda though, the hard wire rv-7 has lexicon verbs.

the singer in pallbearer and the singer in the sword both use the tc helicon delay and or reverb. might also be worth checking out the mic mechanic.

I ended up getting a TC Helicon Create. In other news, vocal effect demo videos are mega hilarious.

They are super funny.
How do you like it? What kind of context are you using it in?

It has not arrived yet so I can't answer that yet. But, I plan on using it in my metal/doom band. I mainly just do growling and screaming vocals.
