Catalinbread Heliotrope Harmonic Pixelator??!

really long name for a pedal.
$159, 30 bucks off on proguitarshop right now. couponcode: SOLO100

What do you guys think? It's true bypass and it sounds pretty crazy. I'm in the market for a ring-mod kinda thing and this one seems pretty versatile. But I don't know shit about ring mods.

I've been on and off about the Heliotrope for months now... mostly just because my GAS list is ever-shifting. I think it can do some really cool things, for sure, and seems to have a greater range of possible sounds than the average ring mod. At certain settings, the bitcrusher whine/drone can be a bit painful to my ears, but again, it's got a pretty wide range of sounds, soooooooo... there ya go.

Maybe a better suggestion would be to gather a list of ring mods out there, check out their demos and compare. Off the top of my head, you've got:

Electro Harmonix Frequency Analyzer http://www.ehx.com/products/frequency-analyzer
Copilot Android http://www.copilotfx.com/theandroid.html
Frostwave Blue Ringer http://www.frostwave.com/blueringerv2/

Uh... and a whole bunch more... I believe the Blackout Effector Whetstone phaser http://blackouteffectors.com/site/ can do some ring-mod-y things. Also, the Ibanez PM7 is damn cheap and can make some bizarro ring mod sounds http://www.ibanez.com/ELECTRONICS/model-PM7...

Catalinbread makes some fine products, but the heliotrope never caught my attention.
The mario bros sound was pretty cool in the pgs demo, but I never thought to myself "must have."

this on the other hand seems pretty damn cool

Pretty new builder...he makes the barbershop OD which is pretty popular from what I gather.

Randy's revenge looks cool and pretty versatile for a ringmod, buy the $300 price tag sucks...

I can think alot more $300 pedals I'd want on my list over a ring mod.

That is kuh-nutz! :yay:

However, I gotta say $300 is definitely outside of my price range right now. >sigh<

Yeah, after listening to the other ring mods, the heliotrope sounds very tinny. Tinny isn't really what I'm going for in a ring mod. I kinda dig the ehx, but to be honest, it's just not crazy enough for me. I was thinking the hax might be a good decision a while ago. Maybe i'll check that out again. :joy:

Recycled aluminum enclosure from pedalenclosures.com!

But I know, prices suck. When i hit the lotto, I'll sell at parts cost.

i'll start buyin ya lotto tickets, man. :thumb:
might end up cheaper to buy you a few lotto tickets and win ya some lottery money then get parts cost... :idk:
then again, if i bought you a winning lottery ticket, i'd probably just keep it.

I'm thinking either that or the EHX Frequency Analyzer XO... Anyone used the EHX before?
