Re-finished a Peavey cab.. Story time.

Post by WORMDIRT »

So, story time...
I drove 2 hours to pick up a Peavey Supreme 160 for basically free, and the guy threw in the cab for driving so far, under the pretense that "its all fucked up and doesn't work"
Cool, free cab for me.
Take it home, open it up and the wiring is all fucked.
Quick fix and its kicking ass.. god I love sheffields..
Now I have a cab that is torn up, and an itch to fuck shit up, as well as a bandmate who is getting a custom Atlas cab made.
Jealousy is a bitch.
So I stripped it and spray gunned it green as fuck.

That's Beautiful...

I had the same thing with wiring and Sheffields do indeed Rock your Cock Off...

Should have left the cat in there for weird wailing sounds and cat mojos...

I really think that before they actually screw the Peavey logo on the front that a cat pissing somewhere on it has to be a prereq...

 I think the glue they use for the tolex uses cigarette ashes as a binding agent.
Looks fucking awesome, dude.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure choosing a good color for this cab was one of the most important choices in tone I could ever make.

MDF Cab? What did you use to paint it? Did you sand all the glue and shit off first? Tell me more. There's one of these cabs at a local GC for pretty cheap. Maybe I'll pick it up if it's got them Sheffs.

The sides are plywood and the back is particle board.
I'll give you a loose how to/what I did type deal.
Took off all the tolex and hardware
Sanded all the glue off with an orbital sander w/100 grit paper, took about 2 hours
Filled the holes with bondo, sanded it down repeated about 4 times.
Covered the entire thing with putty, sanded it down, repeated about 3 times.
Sprayed with primer, and sanded down about 4 times.
Sprayed with 2 coats of green then 2 coats of clear coat.
It came out pretty cool, but it was barely worth the effort.
