What would you do to my board?

This is what I'm working with right now.

Image

I play a lot of shoegazy type stuff. I'm also not the only guitarist - we share rhythm and lead duties. He runs a Sovtek MIG50 into a 2x12. Uses a thinline Jag.

My rig is a Nelson Socialite, Strat or AVRI JM into a Verellen Skyhammer. Mesa 2x12 w/ UK Vintage 30's.

Just put this board together last night, wanted to get some opinions on it. It's really fun, but I don't know if I have it wired up correctly. Also want some suggestions on adding/dropping pedals.

Chain: VP Jr - Tuner - MAK Octronix - Flashback x4 - Small stone - NYC (modded) Muff - Skreddy P19 - Vintage op amp muff

I have a russian muff, effector 13 VFM and a DD7. Been thinking about getting a wah and/or compressor.

I would consider swapping out one of the fuzzes for the DD-7, and maybe picking up another reverb pedal. A wah would add for some sweet noise washes and textures.

The order is a little unusual but if that sounds good to you, keep it.

I'm not sure what the purpose of having three Big Muffs in a row is, though.

A Big Muff and better patch cables.

3 different voices. I stack the p19 a lot.

What is a better order? I've never read up on that.

I DO need better patch cables, stat. Recommendations?

Order shmorder, do with whatever sounds best to you. I think the general consensus is that delay and verb goes best after dirt though, or through your amp's fx loop. I prefer modulation inbetween my dirt and delay/verb. But again, there's no rules to it, and if there are: Break em and see what happens.

Your 'dirt to other stuff' ratio is a bit meh...Even for my taste. I personally wouldn't put a seperate muff on my board for each setting. It's not a huge effort to quickly raise the gain a bit inbetween songs. If you need that much dirt, maybe try some more variaton. You sure the tonal difference between the ic muff and nyc muff are even audible by an audience? I'd go with a bit more variation. If you really don't have use for a regular overdrivy distortion, than fuck it. I always like at least one high gain-ish bread and butter type of dirt pedal on my board to somehwat neutraly boost whatever that needs boosting, or just on it's own when the fuzziness gets overbearing and doesn't cut through it the right way.

If you've already got one massive and super versatile delay like the flashback x, the only delay pedal I would want to add -if any- is a true analog one. The DD7 is all kinds of awesome, but it seems kinda redundant for your board :idk:

I'm personally not a huge Wah fan, I'd look at some phasers/flangers/chorus peds instead. More than enough options out there that don't sound cheesy or digital or whatever.

Patch cables: Not too hard, definatelly not too pricey: Make em yourself. Buy a bag of those pancake plugs and a good lenght of cable and fire up yer soldering iron.

Also: That opamp muff is way overkill for you, just sell it to me :p

Oh word. If it were me, I'd replace one of the muffs with that VFM if I wanted more variety of texture.

There's no correct way to order your pedals. Putting reverb and delay before your distortion means that your verb and delay sounds will become distorted, which can make interesting textures. Try them after your distortions and see what you think, you lose nothing by experimenting. A lot of people here seem to really enjoy reverb before dirt. Although most people probably put their modulation (like your small clone) after dirt, I prefer it before.

I gotta say, that is a great board. I use a Muff / Flashback / DD7 as well so I'm quite partial to your setup.

I love using a compressor as well, right at the start of the chain, and I'd rock the DD7 over the second Muff, but hey man, that's me and my opinion.....

And a reverb pedal!!

Note: I get my OD and High Gain/non-fuzz sound straight from the Verellen Skyhammer. I haven't found a use for an OD pedal. The op-amp muff sounds (and it's eq'd) quite a bit different than the NYC muff. That nyc muff was my first real pedal and hasn't been off my board in 5 years. I think it might be time to kick it off, at least for a bit.

What compressors would you guys recommend?
I'll probably go the route of making my own cables.
The DD-7 is clearly not plugged in. It might be a bit redundant, also I've been trying to get rid of it.

The op-amp muff is eq'd a la Pumpkins. The NYC is set up for a lighter fuzz, although still pretty high gain. I use the NYC for single note lines, and the op-amp for most chords. I JUST got the P19, so I HAD to put it on there. It's a cool pedal, but I might flip it since it's a tad redundant and worth quite a bit of $$.

Replace the NYC muff with the vfm and ream
the op amp muff with it. Best lead guitar sound ever, jumps through the mix like a wild animal.

Total reverb n00b. Used to play through a twin and then a super reverb, never needed a pedal. Suggestions?
